hi, i just got 2 Lyretail Orange Female Anthias - Pseudanthias squamipinnis from a friend whos tank could not hold them any more. needless to say, my home was open to them. so i got 2 females, and woudl like to know if anyone has a male they want to sell? i know marine depot has them for like 28 bucks... but juust wanted to try someone known to RC.

i am new to anthias, can i just pair them up with any male anthia? which may be the best to match up if i can't find the same species male?

so far they are doign great in my tank! eating my homemade foods and swiming around about an hour after i got them into the tank.

so the ones i have are these:

please let me know if you have any input... thanks!

No need to buy a male. The dominant female will turn into a male if no other male is around. If the 2 you have have been by themselves for very long chances are 1 has already started to change.

oh, so they are like clowns? mmm, may be they have. i will have to buy another female then... and the hunt go on...

thanks for the info... i will have to google more info about anthias...

i got a pair of those, however, i didn't even think about pairing. i just throw in one male and one female...the male looks ALOT more purple than the one in your picture.

you don't HAVE to pair or put a male in there, just that most of ppl think male usually has better color :)

btw, still have more of those 55gal drum ?

yea, message me and send me your number... hahaha... we can try to work something out?

bsk, i will have to check that place out... i have never seen the male in person...

well, in that case, do you think they will fight if my tank is 8 feet long? i woudl think that there is enough room for may be 2 males?

faded, I cant say for certain. When I had 1 male and 1 female in my 46 bowfront the male would fight his reflection in the glass to the point where he was bleeding from his face. He ended up with permanently disfigured mouth. He would attack his reflection till he was exhausted and then lay on the sand breathing rapidly. 2 males with only 1 female to fight over is not something that I would try. You might have better luck if they each had there own harem of females. I'm not really sure. Ask around I'm sure somebody has experience trying this in a large tank.

oh yea, of course i would give them their concubines... i think they require 2 each? i think the other anthias need 3 minimum? i am still doing research... but i love how they look... brings alot of color to my fish collection...

i wouldn't try to put 2 of the same male in your tank, however, you can have more females if you want. Or you can just put different species of male.

hahahaha... okay... i guess i will stick to 1 male...

i remember seeing the purple anthias... those are nice too... but i think i am distracted by looking at SPS right now. i just love all the sps. since i started buying frags, man... my tank is being over run by frags... man do i need a nice big plate rock...

^Nice!! I've never seen a male Lyretail Anthias in that coloration before. Lyretail Anthias are definitely something I hope to own once I get a bigger tank going.

Really? i see them quite a bit. Your best bet far as ive seen around town is Marks tropical fish on ventura blvd. He seems to get them often

The go to Marks. Thats where i got mine. You can see mine in the link i posted. Looks really blown out (bad camera), but yes, depending on your bulb combo it should look just like the one in the pic, brighter though...

I picked this one up from Carson Tropical Fish in Carson. Tom says there are many variants of the male squamipini anthias. The purple one as pictured above came from Tonga, the pinkish are Indo. This one is nice red with yellow gold sides. Colors on these are striking and apparently these are the hardier of the 3 origins.
