im trying to figure out exactly what im guna do when it comes to flow in my new 300g tank.... considering i just spent all my money on this tank tunze and vortech's are out of the question... instead i was thinking about going with some maxijets with the sureflow/grip mods... what do u guys think about that? to get the flow i need out of koralias id need quite a few and since ther big n bulky id rather not.... i guess a closed loop would be another option but im not planning on drilling this tank other than the holes that are already in it and i dont kno much about closed loops anyways...any suggestions?

I think that it would be a shame to throw a bunch of maxi-jets in a large tank. I would either hold off and save for the set-up that you really want or go the route of the closed loop.

I currently have tunze's in my 125g and think that they take up too much room. My next tank, which I hope will be in the neighborhood of 300g, will most likely have a closed loop on it. I really like the idea of reducing the number of pumps in the tank and also reducing the amount of noise that the animals are subjected to.

Ultimately, I think that if you try to save a few dollars on the front end by buying something that you are not in love with, you will eventually pull that item out of the tank and end up spending more money in the end than you would save in the beginning. (not terribly clear, but I think that you get the point)

Just my opinion. Good luck.

I concur

considering the thousands of dollars that will be spent by the time this tank is up and running honestly like i said tunze and vortech arnt an option .... mabye next year once i recoupe a little i may consider it...

anyone got any info or suggestions for a closed loop? the only holes that are drilled are a 3" and a 2" hole in each overflow and i really dont wanna drill any other holes

I regret drilling mine. I ended up cutting the closed loop out of mine and using a vortech. What were the dimensions of that tank?

Whats your budget?

EJ

the tank is 96X30X25h...i havnt really set a budget but i can say i dont make all that much money lol

lol i usually keep my reef allowance to $50 a week unless i have a good week or something!

sureflows will do and certainly will provide the flow u need.
6 one way half a dozen the other, a CL will need a powerful enuff pump to drive it.

A good return with penductors and 4-6 sureflows should do for a non sps dominated tank.

i guess i dont really understand how the closed loop works.... if the pump is in the sump wont the tank need to be able to drain as much as get pumped in? i think i definitly wanna go the closed loop route since even a maxijet once all the mods are dont cost like around $50 a piece!

This one will get ya what you need, just under $300
im sure i can find one used for a llitte cheaper!

I would use 2 darts for your close loop. they will be more flow and less wattage then a barracuda or hammerhead as well as able to alternate the flow more. You can go over the top and buld a manifold depending on the hood of your tank.
