So I have a tyree purple undata that has just taken off and it's covering a rock quite nicely. I am now on a hunt for some nicer coloured pieces perhaps a sunset monti or something bright red orange green yellow don't care just want to cover the rocks with more than just coralline. I'm open to any species any recommendations thanks

If you know of a way to get sunset monti off a rock it is already encusted on... I have some for you

Hit it with a jackhammer I think, lol.

Not sure if you are interested or not Franky but I can probably chip of a small piece of my pokerstar month. I got it for free so I will give it for free. Let me know

I have this it's bright red with green spots
Pic is not that great though

To be honest someone gave it to a year ago. I am an equipment guy it does grow well and it was one of the corals that weathered a week with no power and it is really deep red.

Some of my favorite encrusters...a bright green pavona, meteor shower cyphastrea, sunset and rainbow monti's, a blue psammacora, superman monti.

but how in the world do you get it off a rock that it is encrusted on...
mine is on a shelf that is like 40 pounds... and in the middle of my structure so I cant remove the rock from the tank....

You can't really remove it from a rock it is on. You can crazy glue a shell or small piece of rock next to it. That way, it will grow over the shell/rock and you can pull that off.

I kinda figured this was the only way... I think it would look silly to have frag discs positioned all around my sunset monti waiting for it to grow onto it.

I say you just talk to it nicely and reassure it that everything will be OK and just when it trusts you smash it with a hammer, lol. Sorry couldn't help myself, lol

Pavona is a really cool encrusting coral. It fluoresces under actinics and it looks kinda hairy with PE...I had one in my old tank and I liked it quite a bit. Haven't seen another one around lately.

you can frag them with small garden clippers. it will most likely cut a bunch of small fragments, however a bunch of small pieces on a disk will grow quickly.

and one of my favorites is purple haze monti, and undata. when the undata pillars it is simply amazing:)
i cut my encrusting corals all the time..in the tank ,bc i dont like them growing over each other, and its a good chance to spread the wealth:)

Definitely! I got my pokerstar monti from Chriskid a month ago and it was a bunch if chips glued onto a disk and they are already fused together and heading toward the edges of the disk. This is by far the fastest grower I have ever had and the colors are awesome.

Most encrusting corals will come off the rock or take a small chunk of rock with it. Turn off your flow and get in there with some sps snips and push while closing them. Some corals will shatter in smaller pieces and sometimes you get lucky with a big chunk. If you look close you can sometimes find a weak point that will cut off a larger section. I have been able to cut all sorts of corals like that. If it's a big colony it heals up fast. I have also taken the underwater epoxy and put epoxy right over the top of the coral I was trying to cut. Then the coral will encrust the epoxy, then you can just snap the epoxy off. this will kill the coral under the epoxy but like before if it's a big colony it heals and grows fast. Also that way you can make yourself a frag and put it on a plug or rock that would be easy to cut up in the future.
