Looking for some Pickling Lime

It can be dosed (very slowly) for calcium and bicarbonate, similar to a two-part supplement. Here is a very good article about it:

Anyone thinking about dosing kalk should read that article. It causes a strong rise in PH so has to be dripped. Right now I'm using it to control PH at night but I'm not dosing enough to meet my CA/ALK demands so I also am dosing two-part.

Do you want to get rid of a little of that lime? I could use some but I dont want to get a huge bag. Let me know.
You are welcome to stop by and get a few cups. Just bring tupperware or coffee can or something (air tight)...

Kalk does not contain bicarbonate. Kalk is Calcium hydroxide. The hydroxide combines with CO2 to become bicarbonate.

I use limewater as my top off water for an auto top off. It keeps my Ca right around 450 and my alk occasionally needs adjusting but it is around 4. I don't have any problems with pH, it stays right around 8.2-8.3.

Well, I was really addressing the end result, didn't mean to imply that Ca(OH)2 actually contained bicarbonate.
EDIT - not that I really understand the whole carbonate/bicarbonate/alkalinity/PH thing. It is definitely hard for me to get my brain around it...

I'm worried that if my topoff goes during the day when the PH us up anyway, it might get a little too high. Does the kalk help smooth out the PH swing between day / night? That's the thing I've been trying to address. At night, my PH was getting down around 7.87 to 7.90. I'm afraid that if I just let the kalk go in as topoff, the daytime PH will go higher and the nightime PH will still drop off more than I want.

randy, heres my 20 gal long and my 5 gal. The mushrooms in the first three pics are what I can hook you up with!!! ;)

That would be very cool - that tank looks great! And the anthelia & xenia look really good in there! That's the xenia there in the middle right? I like that rock with two nice stems coming off it. Good to have it up high there, I'm sure it wants the bright light. In my tank, it climbs right up the glass and eats up the full halide glare right at the top of the tank.
