I have never seen a slipper limpet have a long black forked proboscis (assuming that's what it is) and I've never seen them move around so much (not to say that they don't).

These certainly get all excited when the host moves towards the end.

I'm really not sure what those are. I'd guess an unusual variety of slipper?

Sure hope I can get an ID. I have not been able to see them all day. The conch is "sitting" on them. Lol.

I've searched high and low on this guy. Nada. I did find a picture of another with the "black thing". Is it a proboscis?

Yes. It's a Hipponix, or a relative. They hitch a ride on the snail and then scavenge. The only possible harm is that they dissolve part of the host's shell to make their attachments more stable. As long as it's attached, it's no problem. If it dies or gets knocked off, it may leave an exposed hole in the shell.

I appreciate you ID'ing my "passenger"! As it turns out, I have three on my conch and 1 on a snail. All from the same tank at my LFS. They really are interesting to watch. I'm so relieved now that I know what they are and that they won't hurt my tank. Have a great day.
