Lost these 3 complete colonies over the last few weeks. I know many people purchased frags of these. Please let me know if you did and are willing to frag them. I would love to recover these, I am not sure what happened. It is strange, because I had the same colony in 2 different tanks and they both died the same week......

Thanks

Ray I got all three of those from you. I will frag them for you for free. Sorry for your loss.

They will be on the small side, inch or less, but it is a start...

The one in the 1st pic is a good grower and the other two have been growing slow.

What happened? Are the other corals in the tank ok?

Tom, thanks.

I am not sure what happened. I had an enclosed magent in one vortech come apart and rusted really badly. I did know it happened until the pump froze up.

I will bring to the meeting.

did you call about the vortech?

I did call, they said it was a fluke and are sending me a replacment.

The strange thing is that the one in the second picture was in my 180 and 120 and died in both in the same week. I use different salt in the two tanks. I thought maybe it was my ro unit, the pre filters were a month past due.

Even so, your TDS should've been pretty low...nothing close to what could cause that normally, unless they're highly sensitive corals.

chlorine is still a compound just like anything else, and will register in a TDS reading. Regular chlorine burns out of water in about 24 hours, but water treated with chloromides will take up to 3-4 weeks. Either way, this time of year, nobody uses chloromides because river water is (relatively) cleaner, so that shouldn't be it, and the chlorine itself shouldn't have been strong enough to do any damage to anything. Plus any salt mix has stuff added to it to neutralize chlorine in tap water...so you really should've have had a problem with that. I would say iron from the rusted magnet, but a small amount of iron is decent for reef animals anyway, and wouldn't explain both systems crashing the same coral simultaneously.

Do chloromides smell like chlorine? I know that in the winter they usually don't use as much but over the last few weeks my tap water just reeks of chlorine to the point it turns my stomach.

They smell similar. I know my water authority warned me that during the months of April-October to use water conditioner because of the chloromides. You should be able to find out from your water authority whether they are still using them or not.

Hey Ray - I have one or two - I know I bought both from you - but Not sure which has survived or grown enough to get a frag off of after the summer disaster. If you can get to my place and look your welcome to a free frag.

I lost my big Green Birdsnest colony this week from an Alk spike... so I know the feeling, it really sucks.
