Lost my neon goby... :(

My beautiful hybrid neon goby (yellow stripe head, blue stripe body) died today. He got himself through the teeth on my overflow, inside the Maggie muffler, into the sump and got sucked into the octupus skimmer pump.

Now - I don't typically get attached to fish, but I liked that little guy a lot. Now I need to find another one and figure out a way to stop that from happening again!

Sorry to hear that...I've had a couple of fish go through my overflow into the sump. Luckily they made the trip OK and I found them, but I've wondered how to prevent it. I've wondered about hanging some sort of open mesh across the top of the overflow.

A durso with a screen over it. I have a 2" durso with a 2" drain cover on it. Would be kind of hard to get a fish out of the overflow though. then again a neon just might fit through the opening. Good luck making it through the mess of bio balls I have in the first section of the sump.

I'm thinking about siliconing some window screen on the slits for the maggie muffler... it would solve my issue, I'd just need to find a screen type that wouldn't foul my water over time.

I've heard of people putting rubber bands on the teeth of the over flows to stop fish from getting sucks through. I've never tried it myself but it sounds like it would work.
