Loud 6060

Hi,
I recieved two 6060's today and one is very loud (unusable). The other is nearly silent:) As the trouble shooting guide suggests, I went through the cleaning steps and discovered a few differences between the loud and silent Stream. The the impeller on the loud Stream has what looks like a manufacturing tab (1/16") that was not completely removed, a burned mark on the magnet and the bearing bushing was about half way out. I pushed in the bushing and the pump was still loud. Do you think I should cut off the tab? It may be unbalancing the impeller. The tab is circled in the pictures below and the burned mark has the arrow pointing to it. I don't want to do anything to void the warranty. Please let me know what to do. Thank you.

I don't think either is likely the culprit. You could trim the tab piece, it won't affect your warranty. I would think the most likely cause is the bush bearing (collar around the hole) is not in all the way, I just installed a new filter today and this was the same problem I had, the piece comes out in shipping sometimes. If pushing it in alone doesn't fix it, pry it out, turn it 180 degrees and reinsert it.

Hi Roger,
Thank you for the quick reply. I turned the bush bearing 180 degrees, but the pump is still just as loud. It is making a very loud buzzing noise. Let me know what else I can try. Thanks.

Hi Roger,
I have checked/tried some things and the pump is still loud:

-turned the bearing bush 180 degrees and reseated it.
-removed the upper internal bearing to check all parts for damage, none visible.
-switched impeller with the quiet pump. Still loud.

Please let me know your recommendation. Thank you.

The drive unit from your quiet pump is also loud in the other pump? Did you change all parts, including the bush bearing and upper bearing?

I only switched the drive unit. I will try to switch the bush bearing, upper bearing and drive unit to the loud pump and hear what it sounds like. Yes, the pump was still loud with only the quiet pump drive unit. Thanks for the suggestions. I will let you know what happens.

Sorry for the hassle I just want to be sure of the cause so we can send the right parts to fix it. The noise is coming from the brakes dragging because of a misalignment and we need to find what part is causing that.

No hassle. I want to get to the bottom of this too:). I appreciate your help. Today has been a busy day and I have not been able to change the parts out yet. I'll do it first thing in the morning. To my suprise, when I got home, the pump had quieted down considerably. It is still louder than the other, but not like it was. Maybe like a loud Mag pump. It also sounds like it is cycling. The buzzing gets louder, softer, louder, softer... I'll let you know how switching the parts turns out. Thanks.
Matt

Hi Roger,
Success! The pump became quiet when I switched the upper bearing. I could not see any difference between the two, but the sound change was quite dramatic. It went from a loud buzz to a soft humm like the quiet pump. Let me know our next step. Thank you.
Matt

The upper bearing is the one ta the bottom of the hole with the red oring. I can send you one if you PM me an address.
