Low Profile 36x24x15 Build

Zef, With this rock being so clean there Is virtually no cycle. All my Parameters are perfect. Idid this with the Solana too and It worked fine. As long as you have good water quality and proper light and flow, Why not? They are small frags not colony's and the water went In last week not Monday. After I added the fish and still had no cycle I decided to give It a try. My other tank Is not far If they start to look stressed.

Another person, Not to be named Filled a large tank 270gal with tap water and added lots of coral the next day If I remember right! And they all lived, Although they browned out a bit they came back fine. Coral Is a lot tougher than you think, It just can not take some things that people who don't have experience do to them. JMO

I have read this before, and my first thoughts were 1. messy salt creep and 2. dont lots of us already basically do this with cheato in our sumps? Is this better than cheato?

Yep, more nutrient export than cheato because of faster growing and more surface area. Looks promising. I already have a small ATS in my overflow :lol:
 
It may be better because of the type of Algae that Is Incouraged to grow, The Critter Actually had the store tank running on this method for many years with no skimmer and great success growing some SPS but It was a mixed Reef basically. IMO It has potential but as you mentioned salt creep and water loss are only some of the Issues that will need to be overcome. Plus those bulbs will add lots of heat In the summertime too. For a tank with a sump room It's a no brainer, But under a stand may be another Issue.

got ya, I was not even thinking of fishroom design....*sigh* wouldnt that be nice!
 
Any Fiberglass window screen will do just fine, If you use window frames I would use plastic If possible. Some type of Acrylic frame would be great If your handy!

Just a FYI, I don't think your supposed to dose Vodka In a new system. It Is meant to be used as a nutrient reducer which a new tank should not have built up excess No3 or Po4. I think If you go back and read the whole artical they don't reccomend It on new systems, And I'm not doing Vodka On this one Yet but have Introduced Chemi pure Elite and a Po4 reducer right off the bat! Plus I oversized the Skimmer by just a little.
I think that the A S could replace them all but not sure how big It will have to be and what negative effects It will have In a stand as this tank will have. No more fish room my wife wants a bigger laundry room, Guess who wins that one hehehe
On a side note all Coral made It through the night and have great polyp exstension even with the lights off this morning. But as much as I would like to get more In I'll wait a couple of days and let the bio load catch up...

Love the look of the new tank. So, using all new rock and no cycle? Maybe I read it wrong? I have some dry rock (used to be live) that has been sitting on my back porch in a bucket for about 4 months now. It is bright white now with a little but of purple. But it seems like all the life on it is gone and now is dry base rock. I could set up a new tank with this rock and maybe not have to worry about a cycle?

I would be setting up probably a 20-29 gallon tank for my 2 clownfish. I could possibly move them and a hairy mushroom rock once the tank has been setup for about a week maybe?

I could probably even get a few pieces of rock from my 80 gallon tank too. I'm not trying to rush things, just wondering.

Not sure on that, Being It was once live It most likely has dead matter Inside the rock that may cause a cycle. The stuff I got from Marco rock Is mined from ancient reefs and Is pre cycled In RODI water from what I read on their site.
Testing Is Key In what ever you decide to do with your rock, As the tests will tell you whats going on! If It tests OK then I would proceed with caution. I do not reccomend other people taking chances on my account and losing livestock!
Another way to do your rock Is by bleaching all of It In a solution of bleach and RODI water then rinsing well and air drying until all the bleach smell Is gone. After doing this you will basically have the clean type rock that I just started with from Marco rock. But this Is just my opinion and others may disagree with this process. Starting clean and controlling everything that goes In your tank Is very appealing to me! Keeps all the problems of bad hitchikers from entering your tank. In the long run I think this Is the way to go.

Thanks Zef, This will be the last update until the stand arrives and I do the switch. Photo # 2 Is the Tyree Purple monster that was a 1/2" last summer when I got It. Now It's 1 1/2" and fully encrusted on the plug and I'm real happy with this as my favorite frag.
