LPS Tank done Right

Well I did a water change tonight and while the pumps were off decided to pop some pics of new additions. I have been hooked on blastos again so here are some new pick ups

Well I got an amazing deal on some fish from a friend revamping his tank so now they live in mine.

Pair of golden rhomboids
Male Hooded
Labouti- purple velvet does not like him
Hawaiian Flame Male

Very nice! I have a red/green Blasto similar to what you posted. What is the trick to keeping their colors vibrant?

Ok for an update

All the new wrasses are doing great. Im hoping to add a Lineatus and 2 female hooded in the future to top everything off fish wise.

I had unhooked my skimmer and the nitrates had climbed to 40-50 ppm due to a very hectic work schedule and no water changes in about 1.5 months. So I put together some stuff and made my own de-nitrator. Within 5 days I had 0 ppm coming out of the reactor and about 2 weeks later my nitrates were down to 10 ppm with no water change. Im hoping this lets me feed my corals and fish a little heavier now.

Also added a new favia to the mix

I would have to agree with Kreeger1. Beautiful corals that look happy and well cared for. But for all the effort, the over-all look of the tank could be less cluttered and more visually stunning. I'd say get a little frag tank for the tiny pieces and clear some room on the SB and you'd have a much more visually appealing piece of art. Please, I don't mean to knock you, just a suggestion. Sometimes we get so close to something, it can be valuable to see through another set of eyes. Good luck and good for you!!!

Nope I totally agree with you. It looks like a frag tank as far as all the corals on the sand bed. I just cant decide which ones to move and which ones to stay.

I finally took some updated shots on the tank.
My fish population has grown quite a bit

Harlequin Tusk
Copperband Butterfyl

3 Alleni Damsels

Male Flame Wrasse
Male Hooded Wrasse

Purple Velvet Wrasse

+1 on the tusk behavior question, I have been thinking about tossing this guy into a 750 I run but I am worried about behavior and I know it is NEVER coming out when it goes in.

Well the tusk is well behaved in a sense. I knew he was going to go after shrimp, crabs, and snails. No biggie. The annoying thing he does is he flips my frags over looking for food. So in a tank with colonies it should not be a problem. He is the boss of the tank, but only chases some of the other wrasse every once in awhile.

Did he take out any large resident cleaners? Is he so thorough that all snails and hermits of all sizes are lunch?

thanks for your response this is very helpful

He actually leaves my jumbo nassarius alone and I have hermits moving around. They come out more at night. I dont even attempt shrimp.

I'm thinking about getting a copperband also. Any problems with him picking at corals?

Tanks looks fan-tas-tic as always!! I love your picture updates.

Well the Copperband has done is job. He cleared out all of my aipstasia that were running rampent in my tank. Also the purple tang has cleaned up my bryopsis that I had growing on a few rocks.
Now the last thing I need to do is get rid of my bubble algae then the tank will be spotless.

I am now in the planning stages for my ultimate tank. It will hopefully be done in about 2 years. Im going to keep it underwraps for now but it will be between 500-700 gallons, but not your typical aquarium shape.
