LTA gone missing

So my purple LTA was in the tank in its normal position when I left the house at 3:30 doing terrific and by 7:30 it is not there. I have had this in the tank for 4 weeks and it has been more than happy where it was and now it is MIA. I have searched my entire tank for it and cannot find it anywhere. It was located in the sand so is there anyway that it could have sucked itself completely under the sandbed or should I continue to look. We spent a lot of time last night trying to find it to no avail so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I understand if they get upset they move but generally you can find where they go to but this is just a tough one trying to find it.

It has probably relocated itself deep inside your rockwork. Leave it alone and it should come back out on it's own. Just make sure all your power filters have sponges on the intakes because there's no telling where it will re-emerge.

Give it time, they can, and will, suck themselves up completely that you can't see it at all. Once in a blue moon I will bother mine while doing a water change -- it is kind of neat to see a 8" LTA disappear into the sandbed and not be seen at all.

I thought the same thing happened to my GBTA. It turned out that at night and after he feeds he sucks himself completely in a rock and you can't even tell he is there.

mine does this too, his foot is in a deep hole in a rock he can go so far in and turn gray that he's incredibly hard to spot.

Thanks everyone for the responses and yes he did come out of my sandbed this afternoon which is was a huge relief to see he was ok, but now for the interesting part he came completely out of the sand and has no situated himself on the glass in the back of the tank. Should I remove him and put him back in the sand or let it continue to be there? Not the most asthetic place for it to be in the tank but if its happy...........
