LTA problem isolation?

HI ALL,
I bought an LTA yesterday it aclimated to the tank fine. NO signs of stress. Until 2 hours later when my maroon clown took notice of it and imediatly started trying to host with it. The oral disk is not much if any larger than the clown. I know i should not have but i left it alone during the night. I awakened to find the anemone all stressed out. So i solated it with a container with holes in it. The question is will the NEM be OK. I have a pump moving current across the container and my tank params are all fine.

Lots of people will use strawberry baskets too. I don't know if you can get strawberries right now though, haven't looked recently. Since the holes are bigger feeding and water movement aren't such an issue.

Give your nem a little time and see how it does. Good lighting and good stable water conditions are good for new nems, and will also be beneficial to roughed up ones too.

Good luck! :)

Thanks!
I heard about the strawberry baskets which i could not find. Though it did give me the idea. MY lighting is 4x65w PC and 2 40w NO i hope thats enough.

Your lighting is a little inadequate for an anemone, although strange things happen all the time around here.

Which tank is it in, the 46 or the 70g?

You may want to look into more intense lighting (and maybe more lighting). I'm not good at remembering the technical stuff (luckily my husband is!), but I think you may need more than that to keep the lta happy.

If the lta you have is an M. doreensis, they're typically sand dwellers, that means the part of the light the nem needs has to reach to the bottom of the tank. I don't think that your lighting will do that. I could be wrong, like I said, the techie stuff isn't my thing, but I would definately check into it.

A good place to start is the clown/anemone FAQ thread near the top of the forum. Good info, and pictures.

If you'd like to double check the species of nem you have, people here are more than willing to give their opinions on that too. You just need to post a picture of the foot and underside of the oral disk, as well as the top.

Maybe if you put more holes in the container, it would be more similar to the strawberry basket - I would add some holes to the side of the container.

Good luck! :)

Thank you!
Most of what i read said it would be ok with the light as long as I was giving it supplemental feedings. Though in its weekend state that may prove to be a problem. Bad part is the budget will not allow for more lighting at this point. Oh and there are holes all over the container, hard to see in the pic. Thanks again for the info. I guess i am doing the right thing i just need to hope for the best.

I wondered if there might be more holes that I just couldn't see :)

Supplemental feedings will probably be very useful, but I think people on here have tried keeping a nem healthy with feedings but without the needed lighting and it didn't work as well as hoped. You might want to try to check the archives for some extra info.

Have fun!
