LTA the come back

Yeah stick to your LFS for nems, especially LTA nems. Like you found out once that foot is even slightly injured they almost always perish.

If you cut this anemone you will kill it. M. doreensis does not asexually reproduce.

The filaments sticking out the bottom of the foot are acontia filaments. They are normally inside the anemone where they help with digestion, but in case of injury they can project outside the anemone as a defense mechanism - they are coated with stinging cells. It MAY be that it is a simple injury, in which case the anemone may recover. However if it is a bacterial infection, the anemone has few natural defenses. Little is known about treatment of these kinds of injuries - though some people have experimented with anti-bacterial agents with mixed results. In some cases the treatment is definitely worse than the injury and kills the anemone outright.

Best advice is typically to leave it alone in the best possible conditions and hope for the best. If you HAVE to do SOMETHING I would try a topical anti-bacterial agent. Research agents used on wounds on saltwater fish for example.
 
OK so the same people who sold the last nem have another one in stock, they say its " VERY HEALTHY" according to their email...
I didnt want to get another nem online but since my tank is in Mexico no LFS have them and its unknown when they will come in...

Here is a pic, of the nem, what do u guys think? Please answer asap because the nem will sell fast, I just want to get it without any second opinions... I didnt get the refund but they said they will pay for shipping, something is something I guess...

It looks good from that picture, but that picture doesn't show much. I would ask for a picture of the mouth(to make sure it's not gaping open) and a picture of the foot(to make sure it's not damaged). IMO, I would not purchase an anemone online, especially after what happened last time.
 
I sent an email asking for pics or at least a written confirmation that the foot is not damaged and the mouth is closed... Lets see what they say...

I didnt want to buy the nem online but I've been looking for one at several LFS with no luck and none of them know when they will be getting one in... I was looking for either BTA or LTA with no luck
 
Here is the deal... The nem is currenlt not attached its sitting on an egg crate rack at the dealers aquarium, they said its very healthy.... I think Im gonna sleep on this one, any advice is appreciated...

I wouldnt go for it if it was easier to find them locally but currently they are the only ones that have a nem I know about
 
Tell them to start feeding their anemones - that one is starving.

Any time you see an anemone that is getting shriveled, stunted looking tentacles, it is consuming its own tissues to survive. If they don't feed it, the tentacles will get shorter and shorter until they are just nubs.

Other than starving and hungry, it looks in pretty good shape.
 
A bleaced BTA arrived to the LFS on saturday... I took it since I could see the foot and mouth were good, only problem is the color, I read that with care they can come back so I took the dive...

I dripped acc and placed on a rock in the lower level of the tank... it attached right away and withn an hour it was on the move... It was looking for shade, so its now in a shaded area (really shade, under a rock) I can see it and its ok, mouth closed... I fed it on sunday and today as well, it ate the small piece of shrimp really fast...

Im planning on feeding 4-5 times a week very small pieces of raw shrimp... What worries me is the spot it chose, NO light what so ever... I know Im not suppose to move it, so its still there... will the NO light situation affect its bleached recovery? Will it start to move to the light once its not blinded by it?

currently running DIY LED fixture in mixed reef (softies, LPS, SPS and 2 clams)
 
any tips? inputs on bringing back the nem? I guess it will be where its more comfortable, hopefully it will start seeking light in a week or so

The nem is attached, inflated and mouth closed.. I feed a piece of raw shrimp, smaller that its mouth every 2 days...

What worries me is the zoantallea (however u spell it hehe), the foot has color but the oral disc and tentacles are white/transparent... Will they be able to recover? you think it has zoantallea in its foot or something that it can use to recover?
 
i have heard of and seen btas hide when they first arrive, it will very likely move back out. from what i have experienced/heard they move to find the spot they like, so let him do his own thing cause its for the best
 
I have a bleached BTA that I got about a week ago. It was white when I got it but attached immediately and only moved an inch or so to get itself in the crevice I placed it in better. It has colored up slightly. I feed it once a day with a slurry of different seafoods. So far so good. Feed it when it comes out and do not make the pieces too big or the nem will just poop them out half digested.

The BTA is still doing good, when white+blue lights are on, the nem looks white but when only blues are on, it looks greenish... I guess its slowly recovering :dance:
