Luminarcs -- Excellent!

400w are designed for displays >= 24 inches

250w are designed for displays <= 24 inches

PAR is a different animal altogether. Make it easy on yourself and get three 250w MH with LA3. And start with 10k bulbs.

i would use the 10K, but im trying not to use any actinic supplentation.

Do you want color or growth?

10k = more PAR than 20k

20k = provides excellent color, of course, depends on brand and ballast combination

I am not going to comment on 14k bulbs because I have not used them.

My current setup has 400w 10k's with no 03 supplementation.

I just stumbled on here as we were closing and had to read the entire thread, so now I am late for dinner :/ Oh well, it was great to read all of the discussion! I would encourage you all to wander into our sponsor forums if you have direct questions, I am on there everyday and happy to help out if I can. That said, we finally have a few more pictures up at:

www.pacificgardensupply.com/pics/Testpage/index.html

There will be LA3 mini pictures coming soon, as well as a few other products we have for the aquarium community.

Those pictures mainly show the LA4, and the Air Cooled model of the L3, we've had a bunch of conusion as to how the AC models work.

Anyways, great to read what you all have to say, we here at PGS try our best to provide the best lighting we can, and any oppinions are always appreciated!

(I hope this is an appropriate post for this forum/thread)

Those pictures sure do help explain how the cooling works. I didn't realize you could connect all of the reflectors together with ducting and then use a single duct fan to evacuate the warm air. Very nice design.

That is really an interesting concept/design.......since I have owned my L3's since Nov 04, I guess I'll have to DIY mine when I'm ready to enclose everything.

Would the luminarcs work well over a tank that's 36" front to back, 24" deep, 84" long?

If so, how many should I use lengthwise to cover the entire tank?

Thanks!

-Chris

Jelly, the reflector opening is 20 x 20 "
On your tank, id do 3 mounted about 6 - 8 inches off the water

you can mount them only one way in the reflector. Inside the canopy, I don't think it matters.

Would they still look good if the tank is 36" from front to back. Or would there be dead spots in the top front and back of the glass?

Thanks!

search for the italian tank in the reef discussion forum the guy has a big tank with 3 over it and it covers great.

Chris,

I have two over my 48Lx30Wx24H tank with 250W XM's and PFO HQI, the bulbs are about 7~8 inches off the water and I do get a little shading at the front and back water surfaces.

DGASMD uses 5 with 400W bulbs on his 120ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚Lx48ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚W tank and had stated he gets good coverage, you should do a search or ask him how high are his bulbs from the water surface to get the coverage.

I canââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t believe you are going that big so quick, I wish my wife is as understanding as yours:lol:.

So I know a million people are asking the same question but that's what these threads are for and I want to get some addtional opinions.

I am convinced and going to make the plunge and buy one. But the regular or mini. I am about to setup a 26" X 26" X 18"High shallow sps. I am going to hang it as a pendant. So keep two things in mind: What size will be enough to cover the 26" X 26" area and not too close to the water. I want to maintain the open look. Will the mini work or go to the full size? Oh, already decided on a XM 20K 400 watter
Thanks

Has anyone ordered and ran these with the glass and venting?

I'm wondering how well it cuts down on the heat to the water.

Also, what % loss of PAR you have with the glass in place.

Mojo is. He told me he can put his hand on it while the bulb is on and not get burned, no fans hooked up either. I don't know about PAR dif between the with and without venting but he says they are bright.
