I.

I am almost inclined to wait for the LAIII DE to be finished by PGS, and finally tested by Sanjay, before I sink my money into new reflectors.
I have got this mail:

We now have DE L3's.

Thanks Morten, I checked their web site and still don't see anything listed though :(.

BTW, love your tank :) Congrats on the TOTM win :)

I did the same thing :)

They just posted in their forum. There is a limited run right now (for those on the waiting list) and they should be commercially available in quantity within a month or so.

Luke from PGS just posted this over in the PGS forum :

I have good news for both of you!

We have succesful prototypes of both the DE LIII, AND the A/C mini! The DE LIII will be the first released, we have a few in stock, the first ones will probably go to the people who have e-mailed me directly and asked to be put on the waiting list for them (if you are one of these people, and haven't heard from me recently, drop me another e-mail). That said, we have a large order on the way right now, so the DE should be available to everybody within the month!

The A/C mini's are still a prototype, if you want to give us a call, we might be able to work something out right now, they should be commercially available within the next month or two as well.

Thanks for your patience!

ReeferMonkey,

I keep posting right after you... you are one step ahead of me each time :P. Ironic how we both think alike though.. including the testing by Sanjay :D

One of the few advantages of having an office job :)

I've been so pleased with my L3 Mini that I feel the need to spread the love :)

We picked up an LA3 mini, used, yesterday, for over the prop tank. Just need to get a bulb and an adaptor for connecting the hamilton ballast to the PFO connector that was on the mini. I am pretty sure that the HQI ballast will push an SE, but I probably need to double check :). I know very little about SE bulbs and requirements. All of ours are currently DEs.

No office job today, Presidents Day holiday :)

Real easy to do if it came with a mogul socket and your Hamilton ballast has connectors. Just wire the connectors to the mogul socket, no adaptor needed. Enjoy. I dig mine!

Old Yeller. Could you tell a big difference as soon as you installed the L III's? I have spidaer reflectors now and am considering the L III's.

The Radium is designed to preform best on the HQI ballast

Too bad I am a 10k kind of guy :)

I am a 10k guy as well but with LumIII's, they intensify the light more so(too bright yellow) and therefor I will be switching to 12k's next time around. I wouldn't go back to any other kind of reflector as well.
I've always ran 10k's w/actinics and the look was always pleasing but with the Lumi's, the actinics don't do as much as the reflectors make the 10k's wash'em out. :( On the good side, if the 12k's are bluer, I can ditch the actinics altogether.:)

Installed 3 LAIII's over my tank and it is brighter than when I had 4 - 400W bulbs over it! Great product and a very useful thread - thanks.

Great thread, but I have a quick question that I don't think was expectitly asked.

I'm getting 250g tank soon 96"l x 24"w x 25"h. Can I cover it with only 3 LAIII's and 400w MH bulbs? BTW I already have the ballasts. Has anybody else done this? Thanks,

Jon............

As long as you space them correctly you should be fine.

My 225gl is 60Lx36Wx24H and I run 2 LAIII's with 250W bulbs and they cover the whole tank without a problem.

Just MHO but I think a 96L tank warrants a fourth MH and reflector. I run 3 over a 72" tank for full coverage, but I would end up with lower light gaps if I stretched them out further..

You can always plan to place lower light animals in those areas though.. I only keep SPS and want high light coverage across the whole tank. LPS and Softies would do fine.

You also have factor how high you are going to place them.
The higher up you place them, the more spread, but a loss in intensity.

Is Pacific Garden Supply still the best & least expensive place to buy LA3's?

Also is the vented reflector w/glass shield worth the extra $$$?
