Hey Eric,
We bought a dehumidfier for our basement, and it makes a huge difference....
Might look into one of those..

I have the 120, the 58, and a 10 gallon in the basement...as well as asorted barrels for water changes and top off water.....it handles them all w/ no issues.

After having the last round of troubles, I elected to induct and exhaust fresh air from both the wetroom and the headspace above the tank. this may be overkill since I downgraded about 400 gallons, but I'm not going to deal with what I did before. For the wetroom I'm pulling and exhausting 100cfm for about 400 total cubic feet of space and above the tank I'm doing about 60cfm for about 30 cubic feet of space. Although I have not installed the new lights or ran the duct work for the tank yet. but hopefully next week. I can tell you that it's made a huge difference in the wetroom already:D

The wetroom will be controlled by a timer and the headspace above the tank will be ran in conjunction with heating/cooling.

When it comes down to energy, I'm not sure what the energy difference between the dehumidifier and the fans will be.

The dehumidifiers at the LFS were pulling 850w each, if I recall correctly. It sure didn't seem like they were Energy Star qualified, although they had the happy logo.

Eric,

I have two 8000 BTU portable AC units that will both cool and remove humidity. I used them at my old house for cooling the room I had my servers set up in. I'll make a heck of a deal on one or both of them if your interested. Remind me to show them to you when you are in SF.

If you can fit an exhaust fan into the window, that will work out nicely. You might even install two fans, one that draws out air, and one to pump in fresh air when desired.

This is my 1st choice. Will help w/ pH issues also. I'm thinking I might try to build an acrylic or bathroom board divider in the window well (is a 2ft deep x 2ft wide basement window well...just guessing on the measurements) so the intake is separate from the exhaust. This will help so I don't "mix" the exhaust air w/ incoming air.

What fans would I use for this? Any suggestions? Maybe some sort of fan that has a 1way vent or fins that shut when the fan closes? They have to be quiet too.

I have a dehumidifier in the room w/ the 58gal right now and it has helped a TON but I don't want all of the heat going into the basement also. Works great for the 58gal but w/ all that extra water in that little 3'x10' fish room I don't want to run into problems w/ heat or moisture.

So you have a set up to take air of out an inclosed canopy and a different one to take general room air?

Not sure that I will need those for a 3x11ft fish room. but one might not be a bad thing. Any pics? PM me a price

Just searching for options now while I have the time and haven't built anything. Also, before I run into problems :D

The guy should be working on and finishing my stand today. I bought 24ft of 1.5" x 1/8" steel tube yesterday to make the pieces that will bolt together. He will grey powder coat it when he is finished. Hope to have it tomorrow!

Since the air in SD is fairly dry (right?) just using ventilation vans should work. Getting one that is quiet is a whole different story.

jnarowe - Well summer time can get very humid but only 1-2months. Winter is terribly dry. I'd like to pump the warm moist air into our house in the winter I think.

Well ok I might not get quiet but something that won't be too bad since the room will be a living room down there.

There's always a way...Just have to figure out a way to have the fans mounted not in the viewing room maybe. Like build a box outside to house the fan and run the ducting through the wall...

Exactly what I was thinking. IF I stick the tank out all 48" I'd could close in the whole window in my tank room.

I need to post pics so you guys know what I'm working w/

I'm thinking I should use luminarcs for my tank since I'll only have 2 halides on there I better make the best use of the light. Where is the cheapest place to get them? I'm thinking the AC outlet upgrade on the reflectors are a great idea to exhaust all the warm moist air

always check propertyroom.com for lighting deals. sometimes you can luck out. that's where I got my diamond reflectors.

jnarowe - I'll check them out frequently. There is nothing now. Ebay has one from hellolights but it is a buy it now @ full price

FUA - Thanks. Should be nice IMO

I'm thinking about using parallel reflector that I can mount my VHO's to. I'd love to use luminarcs but we will see.

OK got some pics of the room that we will convert to the living room once we take out a wall to make the space bigger. Oh we have to move the furnace from behind that wall to the other side of the house in a "storage/furnace" room

This is where the current 58gal sits. The new tank will be in the wall to the right of here where there is an opening. See the window? That is about 4ft away from the right hand wall (where the tank will be)
livingroom1.JPG

This is the opening that is a closet...will rip out the wall inbetween two closets that sit next to eachother
livingroom2.JPG

livingroom3.JPG

The closet in that living room. I took a pic of the right wall that will get ripped out to join the two closets together
livingroom_closet.JPG

The closet in the room that is ajoining. This is the right side that will be ripped out to join up w the previous pic.
bedroom_closet1.JPG

Left side that will have the door.
bedroom_closet2.JPG

The wall where the door will go. The left door in the pic goes to the lliving room where the 58gal is and the right goes to a bedroom. This will be a straight shot through the 2 closets and the tank will be in the back left.

This make sense to everyone?
