Your further than me Lunch! At least you have the big tank and stand (or almost the stand)? Anyway, I have my 54 corner bow and am planning a 210 upgrade this time next year. Have to get to the addition of my wife first. This is the trade off! Addition in trade for free reign on my 210! Sounded quite fair to me?

Hopefully I'll have some info for you today or tomorrow lunch. My buddy has been working and I can't seem to catch him at home:D

Maximus - On my 58gal? I bought it at walmart. It's just a bell type reflector that has a normal light bulb socket in there. Can get them at HD or Lowes too.

Tacocat - :P  That it...I'm not doing the tank anymore cause the size sucks :(

Hop - Thanks man just PM me and let me know

Ok this is AWESOME. My wife said. Why don't you take my 58gal (which is empty and we are trying to sell) and buy a whole bunch of SPS frags now so they are all colonies by the time you set up the cube tank!! :eek1: I was floored...but not sure if I want to do that. I have 2 halides on my 58gal and could put one on her 58gal. I would add a rubbermade common sump between the two 58gal so that I could use one skimmer, one Ca Rx, ect. Hmm...not sure if I want to do that but we will see I guess.

I say you just go over to Travis' house and git yerself a bunch of them thar frags fur cheep. ;)

Not sure if they are cheap...but cheaper than I could get them for other places. I will get most of my corals from him...well the things of his that I dont' have already

Lunchbucket

Yes, Pretty dang cheap consider that they are all free from bugs and Acro eating flatworms and also monti eating nudi....

Anyone have any suggestions on what LR to use? The guy I was gonna get some from is out and hasn't been able to get the kind I wanted for some time now. A local guy sells some nice Gap Island but I'm not a fan of the style (really branchy) of it.

Any suggestions where to get any from?

thanks

I just picked up some rock from Dr. Mac (tonga fusion) and I like it a lot. I took a huge gamble as I have never seen this rock before, but it looks awesome. Shapes are irregular and look great. I shot a video by mistake and took one pic. I have 50 more lbs coming tomorrow as UPS delayed it.:( Here it is:

I used Marshall Island rock which is excellent quality with nice diversity.

Now that's LIVE rock! :D There was lots of coraline including green, orange and red, besides the usual pinks and purples. Also lots of corals.

It is exported to the US by Pacific Kevco and there are multiple distributors and retailers that carry it. I know that when I set up my system, it came through Under Water World in LA.

jnarowe: Your rocks are amazing! I have seen marshall island rocks before and its my favorite liverock up to now! The only thing is MI liverock are harder to find where i live and its much more expensive than other rocks.

Maximus - nice I'll have to look at that.
Goodwin - Yeah is saw that but the price is giving me sticker shock! So I'm searching for other options

jnarowe - WOW that is nice stuff. Wonder online who carries it.

I don't want to shell out an arm and a leg...remember I have a budget from the wife.

How many lbs do you guys think I would need? I have all my wifes rock from her 58gal so we have some nice big pieces that have been cooking for quite some time.

here is a pic of the rock

Funny enough I just got finished redoing my 58. I have about 65-70 lbs in there. Here is a picture from about 10 minutes ago, still a bit cloudy.

it's available online from a variety of sellers. google it.

You're not going to put that rock with the mushrooms on it in the new tank are you?? ;)

And Richard, it's a loooong way to Montreal!

The best way to get good live rock is to order it transhipped directly to your local airport. Even if you buy from your LFS, cut a deal to have then not even touch it, and specify that you want UNOPENED boxes sent from the distributor.

What happens is that somewhere in the supply chain, someone will "cherry pick" the rock for you which really means they are sorting through it and separating out corals and cool hitch-hikers to sell individually. If you want real live MI rock, you want to pick it up from the airport in unopened boxes from KEVCO.

That is actually cheaper anyway. When I brought in 525 lbs. in one shot, the shipping was about $230 by airline.

jnarowe - That rock has been cooking for about 5 months I highly doubt that there are any mushrooms left on it.

Goodwin - thanks again but did you see the price on that? Seems a little high for my budget

If I had to do it all over again, I'd go with www.marcorocks.com dry rock for a majority of my rock and add maybe 25 lbs of live rock, maybe. Do a search on RC. The pictures I have seen of it look incredible. It's recieved some very good reviews. Because it is dry, shipping is MUCH cheaper, and can be shipped standard ground.

Personally, I can't remember that last time I saw anything "cool" that came in from wild liverock. The corals that survived brought the ugly. The sponges died, and all the little algae bits and pieces were eaten by tangs. Wild liverock can be a source of pests as well.

I was going to go with all dry rock because I didn't want any pests, algae, etc. I lucked out because I ended up buying all of Reefer on a Budget (ROAB)'s old liverock from his tank breakdown. The rock started as 100% dry and he had it in his tank for 2 years in his FOWLR tank (and no reef lighting). It's been in my tank for a year now, and it looks like regular coralline covered liverock.
