Hi Eric,
Here is a picture from 6/28/2003. Maybe it will give you some food for thought. The Sea Swirls are on the closed loop. The sump return (1000gph) is under the overflow box. There is a check valve on the line in the event of a power outage. The intake for the closed loop appears to come out from the bottom of the tank but if you look close you can see it really goes through the back.

The lighting reflectors would better if they were separated by a couple of inches but they are OK for me because it gives me a 4-6" space along the outside where I can acclimate new corals. In the home aquarium you wouldn't be putting corals in that often.

Regards,
Kevin

melev - thanks. I think I'll make use of that 20H that hasn't been touched for 3-4yrs. Would be nice to have an already drilled tank that would work just great as a fuge over the sump. Thanks for the great idea

Yeah, what he said....:D

Most interior doors are 33"wide or so, and a single front door is about 34" wide. Hallways shouldn't be an issue.

BTW, is this an Envisions tank?

Nope not Envisions. www.reefmania.net built it

Oh crap I didn't see this post that tacocat quoted. GOOD POINT. I'm not sure if it is in two pieces. If not that won't fit through a door w/ a 36" hieght and 48x48 top. Hmm...now what?

Typhon - Glad to see you here. You got an 851? NICE. You updated your thread lately? Haven't seen it in my email list for a while

wis and julio - thanks :D

kevinpo - Wow that looks so huge. I'm definately not going to be ready for how big it will be in person. 48x48 take up a big chunk of room. I like that idea. I forgot they make those reflectors that you can attach VHO's to. Where you get them at? Might have to use those

Lunch, remember moving my 30" tall tank in? Your stand won't be any different. Most door openings will accomodate but you will probably have to take the door off the hinges. Some inside doors will be smaller. There was one door in my house where I had to take out the whole frame but we "got er' done".

Right. Most front and back doors (or patio doors) open 36" wide, which accommodates appliances and furniture.

Travis - true but the stand is 36.5" with the legs screwed out all the way. So I MIGHT be able to get it into the house but not be able to move it around :D I hope I can. I realize your tank was a tight fit but imagine 6 or so more inches on that. I HOPE it fits

kevinpo - Got a better full tank shot? The wife really likes the stands. You just use 1/4" paneling to skin?

Thanks
Lunchbucket

Oh yeah. I was thinking the stand was 30" for some reason. I bet you are going to have a heck of a time getting that into a house.

Sorry the picture is a little dark but you get the idea. The siding is T-111 I bought on sale for $11.99 a 4'x8' sheet. The stand is just a 2x4 frame. Very simple and cost effective. I used treated deck screws to hold it together so I could move it later if needed.

Kevin

Just remember to bring along a tape measurer when you look at houses.....My guess is that you probably couldn't go out and buy just the tank for that kind of money. It's a heck of a deal.

Kevin,
theres a big Naso Tang and a Moorish Idol cruising around in your parking lot...

:D

I recently moved my new 3X3X6' stand into my house, just had one of the local window guys pull out a 4X5' window to do it! You will find few doors that will fit a full 361/2" wide stand, so choose your house carefully.

Travis - I wish it was 30"

Kevin - Thanks. I'm just diging through your old thread where you posted that. T-111? Hmm..never heard of it but I'll look at the stuff. Very cost effective but clean nice look

Goodwin - I guess now I have to choose the house to fit the tank now :D I paid 1/2 of what JUST the tank would have cost so the stand was an extra bonus but I do want to use it. I bet that stand was $200+ since its steal, welded, and powdercoated.

maxx - Nice catch. Kevin has some clients buzzing the parking lot looking for water :D

I Wonder if I had to if I could cut a couple inches off of the bottom of the stand and the somehow fix it back or just leave it a couple inches shorter but put a 2x4 underneath and fasten it somehow?? Not sure just brainstorming

Kevin, I like the use of siding. It even made me stop and wonder if it was vinyl siding like mobile homes use, at first. Not everyone can pull that off, but it looks good in that room.

T-111 is an industry standard for external siding for homes. It comes in two thicknesses. There is no reason to use the thick stuff for stand siding. It is very durable and easily washed.

T-111 has a lap joint built into the edge both sides so for longer than 4' runs you can easily make it appear that it is one piece. The panel above my 450 is actually two pieces that can be removed for access. If you didn't want doors in the stand but still wanted storage you could do the same below. An advantage with no doors is the opening is much larger when the panel is removed.
I will try to remember to take a picture today with the panels removed and post it tonight.

Regards,
Kevin

I really like these tanks. Love the opportunity for "look-down" as I really enjoy when I get the chance to view my own tank from above. I would fill it wih clams and SPS!

great looking setup lunchbucket, i will be following you on this one also trying to get good ideas from everyone here at RC to finished my project.

Here is a picture with the panels removed. They slide in behind the molding. It gives you some pretty good access from the front.

Kevin
