Travis - impressed w/ my po4 reading?? i guess i just try hard to keep nutrients to a minimum. feed 1 cube (small cube) of food everyother day, skim semi wet, and do 15gal water changes everyother week while siphoning the sand bed. i guess i didn't know 0.02mg/l was that low :D i like it though.

bryopsis ****es me off to tell you the truth. they must suck up nutrients from the water like a sponge. i wish i could get rid of it easy but i'm sure it will be a battle :(

spazz - i like 60miles north of SF right on hwy 14 and I29 intersection. Travis lives in SF. i'd love to have you. you can park in teh superwallyworld parking lot right across the street from my apt.

hey travis i was wondering how big the riser tube is in the bubble king? it looks like 6" or bigger. how tall is the cup itself? have you ever thought about installing a wet neck on it? how often do you have to empty the cup out?

spazz - i bet it is about 1.5-2". install a wetneck on that expensive of a skimmer...i doubt that would happen but would be cool to see what it would do.

wow the suharsonoi you got is a very nice coral love the color. makes me wish i could get my 75 gal going a little sooner so i can get started in the sps frenzy:D only i will be using T5 bulbs instead of MH. so we will just have to see if the T5's are as good as they really say when it comes to SPS corals.

as a side note as i am stupid:P what are bryopsis?

kau - thanks for stopping by my thread. that suharsonoi is a nice color but i must have changed from what it was in Travis's tank earlier. it was a neon yellow...the brightest yellow i had ever seen...but now it is greenish if i remember correctly. i hope it turns back yellow in my tank...i'm sure it will morph some as i have lots more light

t-5's...that will be cool to see how they do compared to us MH freaks.

bryopsis is a nasty algae that is next to impossible to get rid of :(

Lunch,
I really love the look of those 2 LE corals that you got.

I think that I might be getting a small bit of bryopsis in my tank as well. Any suggestions for tackling it before it takes over?

Chris

spazz, I am in Sioux Falls only about 3 blocks off I-229. Feel free to stop by any time. Just pm me if you think you may be swinging by and I'll give you my number. Not sure about parking the big rig. You may have to park it at one of the truck stops and I can come pick you up with my car. As for the riser tube, I will check. I'm at work right now and this is my only computer access for the time being as my hard drive recently crashed and I'm waiting on a new pc. But I'll try to get the measurements for you. I don't really want to mess with the wet neck as it will require drilling a hole for the water inlet. Also, my sump is not perfectly level so I'm not sure if the wet neck would even work properly. I would hate to rig up the wet neck and only find out that the skimmer is not sitting level enough for it to work. But I have seen the wet neck you did on Lunch's skimmer and really like it. When running the skimmer wet I am draining the collection cup every 2-3 days. When running it dry I drain it every 10-14 days. The cup and riser are cleaned every other week. Just washed under the faucet. I don't wipe the riser down as that tends to set the skimmer back for a day or 2 and requires me to make adjustments to the settings.

Chris - thanks, i like them too :D pick the bryopsis while you can. and blow the detritus out of if every day. keep your po4 low.

Travis - so you just rinse the riser tube? no cleaning w/ a brush or sponge and no drying?

That is correct. Happy 1yr birthday to your tank.

I might have to get a frag of that thin blue stag in there some time.

hmm...might have to try that next time i clean out my cup. i hear what you are saying about wet skimmate for about 1-2days after cleaning the cup real good. so a blast of hot water to get the caked on gunk off the riser will do it.

that is a Acropora loisetteae i believe. i'll bring a frag the next time i'm in SF. you gonna be around friday night or sat? we have to baby sit in Beresford so i could drop one by on the way. also might run a Ca test kit on your tank or you test my water. my new kit is reading SUPER high...so i want a reference to test against. i'll get a frag of some others tuff to if i can (pink prostrata, my neon purple w/ green tip cerealis?...if i can get a good piece)

maxx - thank buddy. you have been around w/ me since day one haven't you? year two will be full of crazy growth i bet

kau - thanks :D

Yup, just a blast of water to remove the caked on skimmate from the riser will do it. Doesn't need to be hot, but the hotter the better. If I wipe the riser I actually have to lower the water level about 6" to the very bottom of the riser or else the skimmer will fill the cup in a few hours. Normally, I have it set an inch or so below the top of the riser.

That would be sweet if you could bring some frags with ya. We will do a whole battery of tests because I have some test kits I want to compare to yours. I would pm Habib about your Ca test kit. I bet he will send you a replacement. Actually, if it is reading that far off he needs to know so he can check other kits from the same batch and if they are all that far off he will need to recall them.
