zoom - sorry to hear man :( did the clam show any symptoms before you put it in?? i hope i don't get that stuff (PM) again. mine never died because of it in my tank. they thrived for quite a long while

Lunchbucket
I think is the PM I post pictures all over to see if it is, you can look at my gallery and tell me what you think.
What was the outcome of your old clams ? i know about the story i read up on it but you never said if they die or what ever was the outcome of it.

pics in the gallery look ok to me. could be i'm missing something or that it is in the beginning stages?? could be clear bill of health too!

what you think looks like PM?

mine were fine for a long time. just slimed up quite often and had curled mantels. i gave them to a buddy as my yellow eye kole tang started picking on them. they were gone w/in one week of switching systems.

not sure what is up w/ my yellow tang but it looks like he has some skin sloughing. almost un-noticable but you can see a few portions that look like they are peeling. almost like when you burn our mouth and you slough that skin...not white like your mouth skin though. it looks pretty clear w/ just a whit tinge to it. on the rear fin and top fin. just happened since last night. never noticed it yesterday but tonight i noticed it. noticed a little by his mouth too...not fuzzy like a mouth infection though.

also he swims in circles some. not all the time but hell make 5 calms circles once in a while. just a right or left hand turn calmly not irradic.

he did eat lots of nori last night and is picking at hte rocks tonight. has eaten some nori off the clip tonight too. he ate like a pig last night...not too much tonigh.

no red streaks or spots.

any ideas??
thanks

tang is too fast. it isn't a sore. just like he's shedding on his fins in a few patches.

no loss of color either.

It may be nothing to worry about.
As for my clams it was not a PM looks like a deterioration of the mantel  it stop.
I don't know the yellows are hardy i have mine for 12 years other than some HLLE from been in a FO tank the first year i had him his been very healthy.

You need a longer tank if he's swimming in circles. ;)

Just for the sake of argument, test your tank for stray voltage. At least make sure that all of your plugs are pushed all the way into the sockets, including the cord going to any 6-way power strips.

melev - don't get the tang police started now. he doesn't usually swim in circles. he is usually very calm swimmer all over the tang...doesnt' act cramped at all

his fins look better today. no sloughing. just looks like someone tattered them in a few little spots...like when they get in fights. my female clown is a bizo and has killed a firefish in 1day...but she doesn't touch him that i notice at all.

at any rate i'm feeding nori soaked in garlic extract. he is swimming and eating fine today. just some bite marks? on his ail

Lunchbucket

he's a gonner :( still alive but has an ulcer or two on his right side and the fins are almost entirely gone :( i'm sure he's suffering but i can't get him out. i'd love to put him out of his misery if could :( just way too sad.

i just mainly hope he doesn't infect any other fish. or they have strong enough immune systems to fight anything off. from what i have heard yellow tangs are wussy fish :(

Lunchbucket

Steven - thanks for the response. i'm sure it is nasty. today the white spots are now ulcers and he looks TERRIBLE. almost all the tail fin is gone and 1/2 the top fin is gone too. all the way down to the flesh and now the flesh is becoming red and almost ulcered.

sadly i can't get him out to treat in a QT i just wish he wasn't suffering...sad part is i wish he would just go peacefully to save him and us the agony of it all

tang didn't make it past 11pm last night. i'm sad and glad. sad i lost him and he suffered but glad so he didn't have to suffer anymore. not sure what set it off but YT's must have a wussy immune system (from what i read). jsut hope the other fish don't catch anything

arconom - will do :D you heard of Falcon Plastics before??

just an update i just got a new yellow tang!! yippie. hope this one makes it w/out an infection. i am gonna soak his nori in garlic from day one.

also tested my PO4 on a Hach colorimeter and it was 0.09mg/L. is that the same as PPM?? or how does it convert? this is MUCH higher then last time i checked w/ a colorimeter in feb or march which was 0.02 (hanna) and 0.03 on hach. not sure why it is higher but i have been feeding everyday instead of everyother day. i think i am gonna go back to ever other day.

i changed my po4 media only 4-6wks ago MAX. guess i should prolly change that again too?

Lunch ,
mg/L(=ppm).
0.09 is way to high.
Do you notice any Snail die of ?
I had some snails die on me because of Dinos and then got in the back of the rocks and i was not able to get them out, so they rotted in the tank and my PO4 when up to 0.08 even running 1 litter of rowa and with the big skimmer .
But i had some large snails (Turbos) that die so it was nasty i was starting to get cyno and hair algae now everything is almost ok took about a month to get it all clean up.

If you have a Tang, you want to feed daily, or even more frequently. Reducing it to every other day won't do that fish any favors. They forage for food all day long in nature.

And I've had PO4 at 3.0ppm. It was bad. .09 is better than my tank currently. I think the tank's glass creates PO4 at this point.

I saw you have tons of snails, i did to . You think our Cyno/PO4 problems contribute to snail deaths in our tanks ?
I know my was after all my snails die from eating Dinos , in two week no more cyno or PO4 .

I don't know Steve. I've had snails die but more often they were murdered by a wrasse in my tank. Since they become a meal, I don't believe they are a source of my problems. I've got a lot of water to dilute issues.
