Lunch, that could be. That would make sense as to the noise. Maybe a little snail or something hard got caught in there at some point in time. It may also be that something came loose from the time you took it out to the time I hooked it up because the noise it is making now would definitely be audible in your living room.

elephen, now that you mention it, that is EXACTLY what it sounds like.

hmm...take the pump off and look to make sure nothing is messed up. sorry about this :(

ok here are some pics

this is after 12hrs of running. the water was set TOO low

then 1.5days later the skimmate i collected. the skimmate is lighter then what i want. i'm still messing w/ ti and getting it worked out. i cleaned the cup and the buid up at the bottom of the neck when i took these pics...so it is all knocked down again

oh i forgot that i took the eggcrate cage off of the clams today. well about 30min-1h later the clams are all sorts of ****ed off :( the tang was after their shells sine they had a build up of film algae from him not getting to them for quite a few days.

still not sure what to do. all i know is this fis is gonnab e HARD to get out if i decide to take him out instead of the clams.

any opinions

Lunch, your skimmer is no longer making the loud noise. Not sure what it was but it fixed itself.:) It was not a problem anyways. I was just sharing any info I had on the skimmer.;)

Give your skimmer at least a week before you expect to see some good skimmate out of it. One thing I really like about those ER's is the PVC welds around the top of the body and on the collection cup. They are heavy duty skimmers.

As for the clams. It looks like it is time to make a decision. To tell you the truth, I don't miss my clams. If it were me, I would ditch the clams and then you will have more room for frags.:) I hear you talk about your kole a lot more than your clams so I think keeping him would be the best route for you.

Lunch you owned a Er in the past right? What kind of skimmate do you like? If wet set it so the bubble line is 1-1 1/2 below the rim of the cup.

Travis - glad to hear it isn't making that noise anymore

yeah i i keep getting ahead of myself and i need to give it a good week or 2

yeah i think it's time to make a decision. the wife likes the fish and taht is why i got it. she doesn't like the clams as much either. i like the kole tang also...so i'm thinking the clams are gonna go :( not sure where to sell them though. Grant said he will do them con consignment for me if needed. i just think the clams will be easier to move out then the fish...and like you said i cna have more frags :D

i did have a 5-2 in the past on my 20H and then the 58gal for about 4months or so. the bro-in-law has teh 5-2 now.

i like coffee :D i'll figure mine out once it breaks in

my ball valve on my skimmer turned very hard and i couldn't make fine adjustments. well Zoom and euroreef helped me w/ this :D

this is the ballvalve w/ the unions removed. see those squares on the ballvalve guts? take the handle off and put it in the holes. turn counter clockwise to loosen it a little and loosen the turning strength!! VERY COOL! and takes up WAY less room than a gatevalve

thanks Zoom and euroreef. i didn't understand till i took mine apart :D

Dang, that is pretty cool. I wonder there are other ball valves like that. I still think a gate valve is better for fine tuning but when it comes to saving space, I suppose the ball valve is better.

I have ballvalves just like the one you have. I didn't use it cause it was so stiff to turn but now that i can adjust it....its soo smooth and easy to rotate. I wish i knew about it sooner.

Travis - they are smooth and are easy to adjust but prolly not at much as a gate valve but personally i don't think you need that much adjustment and the space you save OH MY!

crizq0 - when did you figure that out? it is a nice feature.

deltec externals have this type of ballvalve also

i think the clams are gonners on friday. taking them to sell off at a local buddies place :( i'll have more room for frags and they will be happier. i need to put the eggcrate back on them as they are NOT happy at all right now

Grant's? If so, let me know what time. If I'm not working I'd like to tag along and see his setup.

yep Grant's. he doesn't have much running as his 4ton chiller isn't working right.

i'll let you know though.

*tear* i'll miss them *tear* :(

I just looked at my tank and ALL of the double union valves I have, have that same option. Cool to know, even if I don't ever use it.:)

Travis - COOL!! where did you get your DUBV's? it's a nice option and they turn very nicely...not like the crappy ones that used to be out there

got my RM PO4 reactor today! USPS ate my last one i guess :(

well it came all safe and sound. i was happy but when i got it home...i tried hanging it on my tank (i put my po4 reactor on my tank as i don't ahve room in the sump) and it didn't fit :mad2: this was my fault as i didn't tell Bob to make it for a 3/4" lip. he assumed i wanted it for my 10gal sump and it only needed a little lip. so i am gonna sell this one to a local buddy and order a new one...this time i'll make sure i specify how bit i need it :D

here are the pics. nice little reactor. 1/2" in and out, 8" tall reaction chamber (w/out the flanges and base plate) and 3.5" OD tube
