Travis - i too would like to know the reasoning behind the placements...but i guess they know. heck it works :D

thanks for the link buddy. never heard of Prodibio...i'll go read.

figured i better update my skimmer progress. i did my first dump of the skimmate. i wanted to clean the riser out and get the junk out from being low the first 12hrs

not much skimmate yet. it is breaking in and i'm figureing it out...more to come

also i just upgraded one of my tunzes from a turbelle 7200 to a stream 6000. i have pics...and i'll post them. it was 4 parts and took 5-10min to do it. took a lot longer to position it. MAN THIS THING BLOWS!! 1820gph at peak i think. i have have my controller on 30% and maybe 50% max. i need to adjust the corals to all the flow. but i'll work it up to 100% and 30-50% hopefully:eek2:

some corals are pretty close so i am starting at about 30% and 50% on my controller. i'll up it a little every couple days till i can get 100% and ~50%

wow, not sure how you're not causing a sand storm with all that flow, but good for you.

keep the updates coming. it's been very informative.

btw, i'm about to pickup a reefmania ca rx myself. how are you liking it so far?

I didn't know you had a Turbelle. I did as well, back in my 55g. When I set up the 280g reef, I converted mine the same way you did.

gil716 - no sand blows around even on 100% flow :D

i love that RM Ca Rx. lots of bells and whistles. works great

marc - yep i have two of them. one hidden behind the rockwork (7300) that you can't see. didn't know you converted yours....too easy isnt' it? Tunze really has an amazing product that is upgradeable in a snap or can be fixed cheap by only ordering the part you NEED

Lunchbucket

Lunch, I've never seen the conversion kit. I think its awesome! What kind of flow was coming out of the turbelle before the conversion? From what I'm getting from them it's basically just a controlable powerhead, or did it have a semi-wide-stream "esque" type of flow pattern?

they dont' sell a "kit" but you can buy thte parts talk to Roger in the Tunze forum.

the flow was 132-633gph before an now it is 1850gph max.

not all tunzes are controllable but mine are. you have a controller
TZ2131.jpg

you can set the pump from 30% to 100% and have it "pulse" aka change back and forth between the two. these are NOT just powerheads...they are AMAZING SUPER DUPER powerheads. i'll never have a tank w/out them ever again!

they have one Tunze that pumps 5283gph max!! and it is only about 4x5"

so what you guys think??
Lunchbucket

Greg - i'm actually thinking of getting teh APF600 :D

Travis - i think i know why my colors are light!!!!! remember a couple weeks ago when we went to Omaha..and you told me to put the HQI ballast on teh 10k and the normal one on the 20k....well i did. i didn't figure i would need to acclimate the corals as i thought there wouldn't be that much increase in PAR or anything. well i just looked tonight and my colors ARE lighter then i am used to. i bet that is why!!! guess i should have used some window screen over them.

it is a little late now...and i believe they are pulling out of it already. so the colors WERE lighter then they should have been. guess i just didn't think about it that much. guess i know why

i don't believe any serious harm is done. it has been 3wks  and i think the worste is over.

so guess i know part of my light coral problem..oops!

Eric, I don't know if the skimmer is operating like it should, but I'd have to imagine the bubbles will become much much finer as it breaks in further. The pictures you posted almost look like you just put some PE Mysis in the tank. ;)

Doug can definitely let you know if it is working as it should based on that image.

Good detective work on the lightening colors of your SPS. Hopefully they'll settle back to their normal look.

Marc and nebraskareefer - the bubbler are much smaller now. i think it is a break in thing.

rottface - not noticing any difference yet.
