ahhh CRAP...had a huge typed out response and it didn't go!

thanks for posting those results Travis. i forgot about those.

i was very surprised when i saw 0.00 from the Deltec kit and confused when i saw 0.00 from the Hanna colorimeter. last time i tested 1-2months ago i was only feeding everyother day and got a reading of 0.02 Hanna and 0.03 Hach. now i have 0.00 when i feed EVERY day??? not quite sure what to think.

i was very surprised to see the Hach read at 0.08 after the other to did 0.00 but then the second one was better 0.02 not sure if there was a fingerprint or a scratch on the curvet (name of those vials?) or something....who knows.

i'd like to try the tests again to see what results i get. i only did one test on the D-D and the Hanna. 2 w/ the Hach. would be nice to do 3 in a row on each. then see what the average is or how far of each test is....maybe you could try that Travis.

w/ 0.00 po4 how the heck to i have some bryopsis??? i need to contact Bomber or Calfo and get soem more tips on how to get rid of this stuff :(

Lunchbucket

I'm in any rush for the test kit. Run the test again.

I hate to tell you but up until 2 weeks ago I think? :) I had no fish and didn't feed.

Do you want to know the truth?? I have some very small spots of Algea. I don't need to tell you what my Phosphates are:) And you know I followed the test book to the T for a nutrient poor tank.

so you had 0.00 po4??? w/ no fish, no feeding and still some aglae..DANG!! that sucks. that is the one major thing i really hate in the hobby...algae

any way to get rid of it...there has to be a cure soon

Lunchbucket

acrconom, that makes me feel better to know that you even have some algae in your tank without any fish or feeding. Any idea what kind of algae it is? I get a couple small patches of bryopsis that come back no matter what I do to get rid of them. I only clean the front of my tank every 1.5 weeks. Even at 1.5 weeks there is only a very slight haze on it. But the dang bryopsis still grows.:(

Since you are in no hurry for the test kit back I will go ahead and run another test this weekend. I will do a sample of my tank water and test it 3 times back to back with each test kit/instrument and we'll see what happens. We were in a big hurry after our club meeting last weekend and didn't have much time to really sit back and make sure we were doing things accurately. We kind of rushed through everything.

Lunch, the reason you may not be able to post your long reply might be if you have too many emoticons or pictures in it. If you have a bunch of emoticons in it, try deleting a few of them and see what happens. Or you could just try chopping it in half and making it into 2 posts.

Travis - it didn't give me an error...i've seen the error you are talking about. somethign was wrong w/ either: my computer, RC, or both.

Lunchbucket

Yeah guys, I have small spot of algae. I will take some pictures of it.

You would have also thought I wouldn't get any skimmate BUT every 4 days I have to empty my Skimmer cup.

Most of the one kind of Algae is on one rock. Also Lunch!!! Good news ROFL I have had Hyroids for awhile now. A few small patches that I glue over:)

My next tank will be nothing but Reefer Rocks!!!

Pictures to come.

just got my APF600 today to replace my 2wk old AP600. i figured i better upgrade now while i can get a decent amount out of the AP600. the APF600 will be a better fit for my upgraded tank (125+ in 1-2yrs).

anyhow i ran it in a tub w/ vinegar for about 1-2hrs. then slapped it in the sump

feeding it w/ a maxijet 1200...this too small? i tried calculating the gallons/hr through it and it is about 198gph or so. i want to gravity feed it but it will take a little bit....might try doing that tomorrow. not sure if i can fit all the plumbing under the small stand :(

the APF600 is quite a bit bigger...dang the riser is way bigger and the cup looks freaking huge compared to the AP600. i need to measure them tomorrow and see the actual differences. also the 2000/1 pump is gonna put more air in!!

here are the pics

full shot right after start up

bubbles in the riser. not broken in yet so they are big IMO

bubbles right under the baynet

water level w/ the 2000/1 running but air tap shut off. the maxijet 1200 is running full throttle. do i need more water into it??

and finally how it looks under my stand...tight enough in there :mixed:

i'll get 12hr, 24hr and 48hr pics just like w/ the AP600

SKIM BABY SKIM!

well this is what i woke up to at 8am. 12hrs after start up.

i'm guessing the water level is too low. the maxijet1200 must not have enough umph to get the water level high enough. i'm off to clean out my mag2 i have laying around. from what i hear that is enough to get the water level right. i have a 2littlefishies barbed valve on there incase i need to turn it down.

still want to gravity feed it but i don't have the room...it's too tight i think. might try to work it out in a couple weeks.

Lunchbucket

Yeah Lunch thats not right from the looks of it. Way to dry.

I think Doug said you turn off the air and turn the pump on and see where the levels stays at. It has to be right below the bayonet.

I would call Doug on the correct procedure. I forgot:( But I never did measure water by timing it. Just make sure it's below the bayonet with the Recirc pump on and air off. Don't quote me:)

Call Doug man

well i swapped out the maxijet 1200 for a mag 2....same results. now i'm off toe the hardware store to get some threaded hose barbs and larger diameter vinyl hose

i ahve 1/2"ID now...i think this is killing my pump. i'm gonna go get some bigger like 3/4" maybe

Lunchbucket

well i got it fixed the best i can

here is what i had before. a SXT 90 1/2" straight out of the skimmer to a 1/2"MPT X 1/2" hose barb
restriction_before1.JPG

here is what i have now. 1/2" S x 3/4" S reducer into a 3/4" S x 3/4" FPT. figured 3/4" 90 would allow more flow :D then into a 3/4" MPT x 5/8" hose barb. 5/8" is better then 1/2"ID hose
restriction_after1.JPG

into a 1/2" gate valve to adjust flow iff needed. the hose barbs are 1/2" MPT x 5/8" hose barb. the hose inbetween is now cut as short as possible. this was just when i was putting it all together
restriction_after2.JPG

this is the whole thing put together. the mag 2 goes into a a 1/2" FPT x 1/2" FPT. then a 1/2" MPT x 5/8" hose barb is in there. the hoses are cut as short as possible now that it is set up
restrcition_after3.JPG

this is what it USED to look like. all 1/2" ID hose w/ 1/2" 2littlefishies ball valve and a 1/2"90. i have a feeling all that added up to TOO MUCH restriction
restriction_before2.JPG

here is teh water levels now. right at where the clear meets the black
