here is what the water level in the cup was right after firing it up. you can't see it well because of that gunk that was built up.

here it is crammed in my 10gal sump. the outlet is ABOVE the water.

so i think i have the water level high enough now. only time will tell as it breaks in.

arconom - gee must be rought to deal w/ that little algae

melev - thatnk :D well...now i've been told i don't nee to gate vavle...so out it comes. that should help the flow a little.

if needed a buddy has some mag 3's coming in. i'll get one of those and put the valve back in

nothing much yet..just starting to foam over and run down the outside of the riser into the cup. no time to take pics now the nieces and nephews are coming over. i'll get some tonight

man this thing is BIG. i mean the body is the same size but the cup and riser are substantially bigger. also the pump puts out more air. the bubbles in the neck are TINY

Lunchbucket,

Why don't you feed the skimmer from your overflow? I was doing that with my AP600 and it worked over very well.

I like to cut as much power usage as possible and the overflow feed kills the need for a feed pump.

Also ,

How much flow do you have going through the 10g sump ? I'm trying to figure out what sump size to go. The 50g stock tank sump worked out great, but looks ugly as hell in the living room. The last person that came over thought i had a sewage treatment sysyem in the living room when she saw the stock tank full of cheato.... hahahaha

jman - i want to eventually...but it is very tight underneath there. not sure if i can cram all the fittings in there and have a valve to control the flow. i'm gonna mess w/ it later on..but for now i just wanted to get it up and running.

no idea how much i have. i have a mag950 that pushed through my chiller so not sure what i get out of it. i say 400gph plus but not sure.

rottface4- Yes, most people will use a Y and create a bleed line depending on how much flow you are putting thru your sump.

Here are the results from the PO4 tests I did this weekend. I performed each test 3 times back to back with my tank water.

Hanna colorimeter test 1 = .15
Hanna colorimeter test 2 = .18
Hanna colorimeter test 3 = .20

Hach colorimeter test 1 = .11
Hach colorimeter test 2 = .13
Hach colorimeter test 3 = .12

Deltec test kit test 1 = .045
Deltec test kit test 2 = .045
Deltec test kit test 3 = .045

I thought the test results were pretty interesting. None of the kits/instruments tested even close to the others. The colorimeters (especially the Hanna) seemed to be the most inconsistent between their own tests. Unfortunately, it is impossible to know which kit/instrument is the most accurate because I was testing water from my tank and not a solution with a verified reading from a lab. So the never-ending saga of which kit/instrument is the best goes on...

Travis, doh! I though we have alot of scicentish here.. They should send you some sample, already of a verified solution.

But I guess we still won't know as we don't know exactly what each test kit test for.

From the data, at least the Deltec testkit is consistent.

Yeah, Travis those reading are very interesting.

I wish we could send out water samples to a company. If we did which types of Phosphates would they be checking for?

Yes,The Deltec was the most consistent. But it could be consistent at being wrong:(

Now with the Hanna what % of error is acceptable. For example your first and 2nd reading have a variance of 3.

Travis, can you send Randy a PM and ask about a solution with a given % of the type of Phosphates that our kits are designed to test for? so you can test the accuracy?

Travis, I'm not in a rush for my test kit. I would rather use up the whole kit to help us all out then keep testing my own tank for 0 phosphates:)

Travis - WOW :eek1: those are definately not what i was thinking they would show. not much consistancy. i agree w/ arconom ask Randy if he has a known solution to send you.

0 p04...yeah rub it in...oh well i'm not up there much either :D
