lympho vs brook (pyramid butterfly)

Hey guys, quick update.

nothing works. they are getting worst, the also act as if nothing is wrong, they dont look like the bumps bug them, they dont try to scratch the sides, nothing! and they eat like champs

notrofuracin green did not work
furan 2 did not work.fresh water dip did nothing!

what else can i try? i dont have cp and my vet could not prescribe it.

i can get meds from petsolutions and fish pharma,

any ideas?

i read every page of webmed that looks somewhat like this disease, 99% of cases they call it lympho, however this is not

it is a strange disease, and short of using formalin i have no idea whats wrong with them, i was hoping their immune system would eventually kick in, but all 3 are not healing!

Without going back over the entire thread; have you tried a formalin bath yet? Or perhaps treat with Prazipro? Just in case this is something "worm like".

I did not try formalin, but they did have a 10day prazi bath

I could do a formalin bath, I just don't know how sensitive these fish are to formalin

Personally, I would try giving one of them a formalin bath and then transfer him to a different QT. See how he responds to it. If you see improvement and he responded well to the bath, you might want to then consider treating his entire QT with formalin. I know you don't want to lose these fish, but I just don't see them surviving long term with whatever this is.

Btw; has anyone said anything to you about how close your QTs are to one another. See this: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2423604

Thank you humblefish!

i am aware of the proximity problem and i took a few steps to remedy the problem (or i think i did)

1- i plumed all 3 qt tanks to the drain, so one knob and the water is drained without cross contaminating the other tank with tubes and water and buckets!

2-one turn of the lever and i can fill the qt tank from the top, the fill tube does not actually touch the water line so there is no vacuum of water back into the tube

3- all qt have glass canopies

4- they each have a dedicated feeding cup's

after dealing with brook i had the scare of my life, specially since draining and filling was such a mess, now i can do a 25%wc in less then 60sec

I really have no particularly useful suggestions, I have never seen anything like it. Given the appearance and that they have had it for a while but don't appear distressed, I'm wondering whether it may be some kind of viral infection. If it is, I doubt there is much to be done and the fish will either recover on their own or ultimately perish. Although I would not normally suggest this, wondering aloud whether a cleaner fish might clear away the bumps?

Sorry you are having all this trouble. Despite their 'designation' as easy, I think pyramids (and the naso tang) can be quite tricky to acclimate - at least, that's been my own experience. Maybe you need to get some easier fish and a few 'wins' under your belt :)

Thanks Simon, HumbleFish

as you said i need a win, i wont lie about getting a little discouraged, my tank is so bland and i cant get any fish in it!

also i am almost at my wits end with these pyramids, i am giving them until oct 10th to show improvement (the 11 day formalin bath), if they get worst by then i will be giving up on them and moving to a new batch

also i was under the impression that naso's are super easy to keep! any suggestions of fish that are hardy? i need a new addition to my tank

thanks!

btw what do you guys think of my preventive cross contamination methods? waste of time or good idea?

What size tank? Corals/FO? Everyone seems to have their "achilles heel" fish they just can't see to keep. For me, it's CBB. I've been through probably 3-4 now; can't get 1 to make it out of QT.

Personally, I would move one of the QTs to an entirely different room. Or at least 10-15 feet away from one another.

Well, lots of people seem to be able to keep them, just not me. I get them through QT and then they die in the display within a few days. Tank must just be too aggressive for a rather slow, weak swimming fish.

Maybe get a group of smaller fish - chalk bass are awesome and easy, bartletts are cool in a 265 (even if they are a bit chippy), pair of clowns, yellow tail damsels (no other damsels though).

Thanks Simon, btw i will be in Connecticut in the march! if its ok with you i might drop by!

i need to see a successful tank for motivation!

Absolutely, just let me know! It's been a while, but I actually lived in Montreal as a kid. Beaconsfield. Wonderful memories.
