Lyretails?

The females are so similar it is really tough to tell. And as the scientific name isn't noted, it's even harder. Hopefully I can get a fellow RCer up in Tokyo to go to the shop and make a positiv ID.....

Perhaps some better pictures might help.

Yes, you are correct. Those are both Pseudanthias Squamipinnis (specifically, females).

Great, so I'm sorted then. For any anthias keepers that have endured this thread, I have 2 questions:

1) What's a good number of females to get (in the hope that one will turn male)?

2) I've heard that Lyretails are amongst the easiest to get to eat prepared food. I feed a mixture of flakes, pellet and brozen mysis, brine and baby brine at the moment. Will the Lyretails fit into this feeding regimen?

1) In a 450g tank I am sure you can as many as you want. I have 6 in a 135g tank but with 1 male. If you went with say 12 females then I think that would be a good start. Also, in that size tank I wouldn't be worried much about aggression as the ones being picked on can flee within lots of room to go.

2) That is a great start. Most will only take frozen mysis, brine and cyclopeeze at first but after awhile they might start eating the flakes. Mine currently will only eat the frozen stuff

The tank is actually 340g and 450g is the water volume including the 150g sump (that is not full to the brim obviously). But I think the tank is big enough to house alot of fish and with the way I've done the rockwork there are alot of zones/territories so I want to stock as much as possible. Maybe I'll get 8. :)
