M-Six Hundred's 34 Gallon Solana Build Thread

I guess I'm back in... I purchased a 34 gallon Solana 3 sided super bright tank a week ago.

I decided that the light was just not going to cut it. I like where it positioned but I wanted to add a sump, skimmer and phosban reactors. I ended up drilling the tank. I purchased a glass-holes Super Nano con Dientes Overflow Box and a return. I am going to match it up with a Sicce 1.5 or 2.0 return pump.

I'm painting the back black so you cannot see the plumbing.

And I am matching it up with this stand. I got the idea from another Nano build. I purchased it from Ikea for $69 and I am going to reinforce it with 1"x6"'s on the inside for support.

I also purchased a Bubble Magus 3.5 and an AI SOL Blue.

Tomorrow after the paint dries, I will bring the tank in. Set the over flow and return. Reinforce the stand and drill some holes for plumbing. I will post more pictures tomorrow of my progress.

I know 3 sides are super bright glass How could you tell which side was the back to drill the holes...

So I was getting a little annoyed with my skimmer but today i came home and it was finally pulling out the stank.

Very cool

We have very similar setups. I am loving that drain pipe. Mine is decently loud so I might try something along those lines if I can make room.

Here are some updated photos. I have switched off of the AI Sols. After taking these pictures I'm starting to think they were not doing that bad. I have only been on the metal halides for a day. I did have some problems with a few corals. I am now using a giesemann 250 watt and two T5's fixture.

It's a Birkland White Nightstand, listed at $99 but when I bought mine it scanned at $69.

Here is an updated picture of my sump. I went with a larger skimmer. We will see how it works in the next few weeks.

And the dosing pump. I have ALK, CAL and MAG in three half gallon bottles. Should last me 2 months or a bit more.

I have not done any skimmer changes yet. I plan on changing some things in the next month. Going to be cleaning the sandbed off and will be thinning out my corals some. Your tank and setup looks great. Was over at San Tan today at the apple store. Maybe next time I can get a live viewing of your tank.

Sure, let me know next time your over here. I was talking about my skimmer upgrade. From the BM 3.5 to the Reef Octopus XP 1000SSS
