m0nkie's 560gal

you guys are ballsy to have such a huge maroon being hosted by CSB... those maroons can get nasty on the anemone..

Not much going on at home.. so started paying more attention to the tank.

Had a mini crash on the SPS due to CR leaking. Took it down and got the lazy reefer syndrome. didn't install it for 2 months. Kalk reactor couldn't keep up the demand and Alk was around 5.. on top of that high TDS water from old membrane. got this nasty red slime algae. when that was gone, nasty green slime algae. carpets full of them, killing some more coral.

soo... in the last month till now, I changed out all the filters, put in a new CUC of 10 pencil urchin, 10 mexican turbo, hundreds of chitons and snails. tank is visibly cleaner. Cleaned the CR and reattached every connection. Hooked up the Neptune Trident that was sitting in its box for a month. Brought Alk back up to 9.

next step is a better doser for the supplements. either GHL or Versa. Leaning toward the Versa since I'm using one and it's working very well.

Recently added a pair of Crosshatch trigger. This female has a very interesting personally. She hates dirty stuff in front of her cave. So she's been picking on the dead snails, rocks, and my frags and tossing them into a corner pile. It's becoming an issue as I have to pick out frags every day. As of now, half of my sand bed is her turf.

solution... making heavy frag mounts. Made some personal star war mounts. Ordered some soup bar molds for some blocks.

Lastly the fun little CSB experiment. I've mixed countless high ends nems and killed them all. alllllll...

then 1 of my CSB decided to start dying for no reason in the nem tank. Others all doing great. I cipro'd the little guy and he was a this last leg. Didn't want to risk putting back in the healthy tank, I tossed it in the big tank's sump. In that sump there's regular rainbow bta, wild bta, and black widow. all should be deadly to the csb..

well.. the guy is making a recovery. gaining size and color. not completely healed yet but growing. Interesting how things work out. I'll keep an eye on this guy and propagate it. see if i can mix it with other rainbows

some random algae feeding... used all kinds of algae feeders these years. best solution. PVC pipe and rubber band

I've tried a bunch of things... hand feeding was the best D but I rarely had time for that.

If I get big fish again, I'll try your PVC and rubber bands.

Clip on a stick, magnetic thing... all were meh.
