If we had enough people does it make sense to rent one or two of those big vans and take the 14 hour drive to Atlanta or is that simply too long for most people?

depends who's driving :)

Figure we get on the road by 7am and we could be in the hotel by 11pm even with a few stops for dinner and lunch etc...

Figure driving it would be cheaper as a groupthan flying but 14 or so hours in a car can be pretty tough. Plus side though is I figure it would cost about $60 per person dependant of course on alot of variables. But... man people better have some good jokes cause there's only so much you can talk about coral on a drive :eek1: People better make sure they took a nice shower that morning too. Anyone with B.O. gets tossed out :smokin:

Atlanta Road Trip

Having driven this little jaunt twice already, 14 hours is a little short on time estimate unless you really like speeding tickets. My best time is around 15 hours. That includes one 30 minute meal stop and a couple of rest areas (wife and son). Its a great drive but better bet on 15 not 14.

Just my 2 cents. If you do go let me know. I will get you the directions to the 2 best reef shops in town. If you are into sps you will LOVE Cappaccino Bay.

Pastor Scott, Your definetly right. You can do it in 14 if you pretty much go straight through and only stop to refuel. Not something most groups can do. (nor can I anymore :) ) I figure 7am to 11pm would be more reasonable as that is 16 hours. If we can get at least 8 commitments by April '08 then I'll set up the drive for next years MACNA. If not then I'll be flying the wild blue yonder :)

Just to let you know - Cap Bay is also an exhibitor at MACNA XX!

Hope to see you guys in Atlanta.

just spoke with covered wagon tours out of hornell (we do their computer work). She's going to put numbers together for a bus so we have something to compare.

wow you guys are sure making it sound interesting. A bus trip cool. Would they allow you to stop at the shops along the way to or back? Would it be for the Rochester people only?

they're based out of hornell. I imagine they may have a couple pickup sites, i'll get some more info tomorrow when i talk to her again.

Ok, so here's the deal. For a 55 person bus for the trip would be $9995. With 45 that would roughly be $225 a piece, 50 would be ~$200.

For comparison, when the 4 of us went to Pittsburgh it was ~$175 in gas alone (20 mpg vehicle)

So that's on the table as an option.

How many people went to MACNA this year from the group? That would tell us very roughly what we could expect. Maybe even less this time around due to the extra days off needed for the drive.

Remember that the Monday before is Labor Day, so it is already a short week. (not to unduly influence you - we would love to have 55 of you here :) )

I was told about 16 hours to get there. They'd have to change drivers once to make sure they don't run over on driver hours. With an itinerary, they'd be able to do stops.

Flights are running around 350.00 for non-stop Buffalo to Atlanta using Delta. Flight takes 2 hours.

I'm also checking into renting a bus or an entertainer's coach. Only carries 10-12, but with couches and sleepers. Could be cool. I don't think those need special drivers either. Cut's the cost way down.

Something like this

Rental Rates
Start End Daily Rate US$ Min. Days
Sep 20, 2007 (Thu) Dec 20, 2007 (Thu) $ 225 4
Other Costs:
Mileage: .45/mile over 100 miles/day
Generator: $4.00/hour over 4 hours/day
Deposit: $1,500.00 (refunded within 48 hours)
Insurance: Binder preferred
Additional Fees: Cleaning, dumping, fuel

That one ends up costing about 2500.00 for the 5 days(Thursday-Monday) including the extra milage and gas, assuming it can get at least 10 miles to the gallon.

That's 250.00 a person with 10 people.

Flying is sounding better and better, the more I look into it.
