Macro Algae

I have a 55gallon reef that has been going for about 7 years. Recently I have had Macro algae growing, the tang has been keeping it under control. Now the algae is out growing what the tang and others can graze. Water parameters are fine Is there any other actions that I can take other than trimming it myself every other day? Maybe another fish that is a hardy grazer?

I'm about to upgrade the size of my tank to a 125g as soon as I get done building the stand. So I don't want to have the algae completely take over and kill off my corals.

Thanks

Re: Macro Algae

Water parameters are fine

Worst statement ever, used MANY times in this forum.

There are probably a dozen threads at any given time active about algae control, a search will provide you with more reading than you might think.

But in a nutshell, algae outbreaks are caused by one main thing: nutrients in your tank. This could be any number of things from many sources. Phosphate from the water source, overfeeding, etc. In the end, you will have to feed the bad algae less to control it.

My Bad.... I wrote this in between patients and i was strapped for time. I understand that "water parameters are fine" is not the right thing to say. It was me being lazy. Here are the h20 parameters.

Ph = 8.3
Sg =1.025
Ammonia = 0.0
Nitrates = 0.1ppm
Nitrite = 0.0
Phosphates = 0.04ppm
Ca++ = 420ppm
Temp. = Constant 81.2 F

Don't sweat it, just a peeve of mine. Now for some other details:

- how much sand (depth) and how old is it?
- how much rock, what kind?
- number and size of fish and critters?
- number and size of corals?
- number and type of filters?
- using any refugiums? Macroalgae?
