Macro Algaes and Hypo?

I switched over to a new, bigger system this past weekend and the fish I have had for months and in some cases over a year decided to get their first case of ick...

I was able to get all of my inverts and corals out which is good.

I do have some macro algaes and what not on the rocks. Will that survive the hypo?

Macro will not, micro usually will. Treating the main display with hypo is rarely effective, much better to remove fish and fallow DT IME

My understanding is that I can go into hypo in the DT and after the fish are not showing signs I leave the tank in hypo for another 4 weeks to ensure everything is gone...

Is this not the case?

Having said that - Doesn't keeping them in the DT if possible reduce stress than having them in a tank with PVC and no skimmer or filtration?

I have a Tunze ATO / PM2 and Conductivity Prob coming for my Apex so I can ensure everything for hypo in the DT is exactly spot on... If I were to go into a QT with PVC I would not have any of these benefits...

Am I really wasting my time here? I thought it could be done.

There are many failed attempts on the forum along with my own personal. Treatment in the main display will have to go for an entire 12 weeks, precise, constant s.g. of 1.008 is difficult, any rise just for an hour can allow a cyst to rupture and attach to fish. Due to shock of the living ecosystem you may experience water quality issues which will lead to other issues.
