Macro ID - Algae taking over

Hello all...

I've been searching through this forum for the past couple of days in an attempt to ID a certain macro that is taking over my main display. Unfortunately, I've yet to make a determination. I've tried combatting it with Mexican Turbos and more frequent water changes to no avail.

wow, that looks like its already taken hold of your tank...
mexican turbos are great grazers but if they can't take control of it i don't know what to tell you...
maybe you can rip some out and send it to me :P LOL

is that live rock it's attached to?

Yeah, it's taken over probably 40% of the live rock surface. The photo is a macro of one particularly bad area. I've tried manual removal, but it's very difficult due to the way the algae attaches itself.

Cory, I am having that same type of issue in one of my tanks. I have been fighting it by pulling it off the rock, but I need a better solution. Hope someone can provide a good solution.

Where did you purchase your LR? I bought mine from Dr. Mac about 2 years ago.

Unfortunately, the tank is a bit too small for a tang (50 gallons) and houses several other fish already.

You could fit a Tang in a 50g...unless your tank is really overstocked as it is.

I would classify my tank as "borderline overstocked," which is probably why I'm having issues with nuisance algae as it is.

Can you post some more pictures? Would you say this algae seems to be calcified at all? What is your water chemistry like?

No, I wouldn't say it seems to be calcified; it's actually very thin and quite fragile. I haven't tested my water for awhile, but I'll post some updated numbers along with some more photos soon.

Thanks
