Macroalgae , Put In A Seperate Tank?

It seems like I need a refugium. I do not know if I have room under my cabinet ( in my cump) for one,Light and all,waht if I set up a seperate tank, then I could just transfer water into my sump a couple of days p[er week, would that work? Yes, I do have corals, fish

You could plumb a line from your sump to your refugia (tank that holds the macro) and then back. But I don't know if just dumping 5 gal. of display water into a seperate tank with a macro for a few days then putting the water from the refugia back into the sump or display would actually accomplish anything. with the work involved in that you'd be better off just doing a 5 gal water change every few days. That will still reduce nutrient buildup and also replace trace elements at the same time.

The purpose of a refugia in my opinion is to help reduce the frequency of water changes needed by reducing nutrient buildup between water changes.

That's alot of work --can you post a pic of your sump set up--quite often you can have a fugium that looks like a display tank and have it gravity feed to the main display tank.

might try using rubbermaid containers...
they are quite often the solution for people who have limited space underneath.. they come in so many sizes that almost guaranteed to find something that will fit your needs... if you research fuges here on RC people have come up w/ so many creative ideas/designs that surely you will find some design that will fit your needs!

dont think my recom is going to work for you
might try to get a larger tank for the sump then try to convert part of it into a fuge...

there are probably other better options
perhaps someone else can come in w/ some other more creative option...

you want the largest fuge you can get
recom minimum 25% of the size of the display tank... have seen people go w/ less and many go w/ more... we have a 50gal display fuge on a 125 dt w/ another macro fuge in the sump...

if you have the space
perhaps leave your sump alone and plumb in another tank along side of your dt as a display fuge... it adds a whole new dimension to your system and we can spend as much time enjoying the DF as we do the main DT...

or if you dont mind the sight
perhaps plumb in an a large rubbermaid container along side the stand and use it as a fuge... would cheap/economical and FAST way to get a fuge going until you had more time or resources to put something else together...

all sorts of options
boils down to what you can live with... most people dont want a large rubbermaid container sitting next to their dt in the living room...

Thanks, maybe I could figure out a ways to get another tank on the side of my tank, try to make it look decent, since there would be no way to hide it! They have not been very attractive.. You right, I 'm, not really crazy about having a plastic tub next to my tank!!

Like fivesmallworlds said, if you're going to manually transfer water from one tank to the other, your efforts would be better spent just doing a water change with new salt water. It would be significantly more effective, and about the same amount of effort.

whats in the intake section of that sump?

Can you post a picture that shows a side view of the sump, all the way to the bottom?

if you're just looking at nutrient export, you could try a remote deep sandbed in a 5 gallon bucket. I read about those here and they seem to work well. You can hide a 5 gal bucket pretty easily somewhere near your tank.
