Maculosus angelfish

Good evening everyone,

I was just curious to learn of any personal experiences in keeping Maculosus angels in reef tanks.

In my last set up, before I moved, I had a Blueface Angel (the only fish that would challenege the clown tang in the same tank) and he never bothered any zoos or various tree corals, even xenia as well.

I'm upgrading to a 180 in less than a year, so I'd love to try one of these then.

Any thoughts?

thanks,
David

Mac's are hardy. Meaty corals may be a snack for them. But, they get HUGE. One of the biggest angels. Need a much bigger tank than a 180.

I had a baby Mac in my 75G reef and had to take him out after 2 weeks of being in there; he was chowing down all my zoos and tree corals.

My experience in raising the Maculosus Angel is most rewarding. Got one when it was only about 3 inches ,but now its almost 6.5 inches. It is one of the fastest growing marine fishes. My tank is dominated by the Blue Hippo tang which is about 9 inches and bosses around every other fish except the Lionfish. Maybe both are blue color so the blue tang tends to be aggressive towards the Maculosus. It hides much of the time behind the rockwork, but would come on during feeding time. But have noticed it to be less shy, probably because of its size now, doesnt see much blue tang's aggression towards the Maculosus recently. It can be territorial and would drive away any fish close to his territory.

Feeds on almost anything . His favorites are Nori, lettuce, clam, shrimp, flakes and pellets.
