mag pumps

I use a mag5 as my return, and a mag7 to power my aquaC ev120 skimmer.

The skimmer wasn't doing well, and I realized that the mag7 isn't pumping at it's full output any more.

I felt down by the output, and there is definitely water coming out of the body near the male adapter part. There are no visible cracks, and the pump is only around 5 months old. It sits in my sump, and nothing in there has changed, so I don't know how it could crack.


Has anyone else had this happen? Is there a way I can buy a replacement body casing instead of a new mag7?

take it apart and check the impeller

I don't have a lot of experience with mags, or pumps in general ... but why would the impeller cause water to come out of the wrong part of the pump.

I'll try to find a diagram online to help me out with disassembly and reassembly.

It should be 4 screws. after that just pull out the impeller.

An easy fix I found was to silicone the casing as you sandwich it back together. I haven't had a leak since. You can always peel the silicone away if you have to take it apart.
