Tested water today and Mg dropped drastically since last test. I don't get it help me out how do I bring this back to proper levels.
Water change of 30 gallons last Wednesday. Instant Ocean salt
SG of 1.024
Temp 78
Ph 8.2
Ammonia 0
Trite 0
Nitrate 5
Phosphate 0
KH 9
Calcium 400
Magnesium 900
Last tested mag on 11-16 it was 1150 where did it go? How do I bring it back up safely?
I added a pagoda cup coral two weeks ago it is growing like crazy but thought it would deplete Calcium before magnesium.... I am stumped.

Coralline algae's growth is fueled by magnesium. Are you seeing an increased growth?

At any rate, there are several good mag dosing products on the market. Kent Tech M or Brightwell's both work well. Read and follow diections on the product.

Why yes the coralline has started to explode in my tank in the last month and a half.

That makes sense, I even knew this could happen and ashamed to say I never even put the 2 together! Just instant panic. After a year and a half the tank is finally stable and doing good, then one bad reading and boom panic ensues.

 It happens to all of us at one time or another.

You'll want to raise it slowly over the course of a week or so. Once you get to 1350ppm, just dose when you see a decline. BTW, IO salt is low in mag, generally around 1110ppm in s fresh batch of mixed water.

Thank you very much, I just order some Brightwells Liquid Magnesion. It will be here in a few days and will start to bring it back into target range!

Once you get your mag up you'll want to raise your calc to about 450ppm. It's nearly impossible to raise calc with a low mag level.

Epson salt is a lot cheaper and works well to raise your mag. levels. There are reef calculators to help you determine how much to use.
