Magnet Mishap

Today while re installing my 6100 stream after cleaning (cleaned the magnet also), I some how managed to get one of my fingers caught between the two pieces. :eek2:

Its the magnet made for 3/4" glass, and Oh my god did it hurt.

It almost takes the jaws of life to get these doodads apart.

Needless to say after what seemed like an eternity (no more than 3 minutes) my finger is a little flatter.

It got my finger next to my pinky finger, down to the first digit. I may lose the finer nail, not sure yet.

I know they must have gotten to close together, but man it did not take a nano second for them to attach themselves. It was like the finger tip was in a vise tightened down really tight!!

Its a scary feeling when you cannot get that thing to seperate, and you are frantically scrambling to find a screwdriver or something to pry them apart. Luckily my wife was home, I am not sure I could have gotten the magnet to seperate by myself.

I remember reading the instructions on these when I first got them and the warning that goes out to us. You can believe it. I have first hand experience (literally) on it. I did not think they were close enough to attach to each other, and surely did not know my finger was in between them.

When we got it open enough to get my finger out, I remember saying to myself "you dumb a$$"!! (sorry mods, its aimed at my own stupid move)

Rodger, I need to get some of those little rubber spacers if you have some. I tore mine up tonight in the altercation with the magnet. It won I said "Mercy".

For the future, I recommend sliding them together to avoid these problems, slide the outside one up from beneath the inside one. The pads can be found at Woodcraft in a pack of about 90 for $11, we have them as well, they are our part 6200.509, they run about $2 for 9.

I did not get the finger caught in the tank between them, but rather both magnets out of the tanks in my hands.

I never realized my finger could get so narrow!! Finger nail is starting to turn purple, so it will probably come off. I once read a bumper sticker that said: " Experience is what you get, when you get what you didn't want". Lesson learned/experienced gained with the magnets for sure.

Ibassfish-

You aren't the only one who has done that... I got a nice blood blister from those things! They hurt like a SOB when they slam together!

A bass fisherman, eh? Yeah, me too, though Calif is trout country... I just don't have a big enough "adipose complex" to fall in love with salmonids!

The magnets did not just pinch me, that joker had me like a mouse in a trap. I was born in California and moved away in 1995. I was not into fishing until I moved to Mississippi, and now that I am in Arkansas I have only been fishing once. My Ranger boat is mad at me!! I have never trout fished before either. Any type if fishing is better than work though!!
