Magnifica and Flow

Currently, my mag has been right next to my MP10 on reef crest mode and so far has been relatively happy. My LPS seems to be receding now because of the amount of flow they receive so I'm testing the waters and putting my two MP10's on short pulse mode to get the wave effect to help the LPS.

Just curious what kind of flow you guys have your mags under? My mag seems to love flow since it seeks the power heads constantly.

I was initially blasting mine with strong flow, but I felt it wasn't extending or filling the tentacles so much, guess because it was too busy clinging on the rock . Most likely because mine is still small at about 4-5", so I spent a few days trying all sorts of combinations/positions as I too have LPS's that don't like being blasted by strong current.

My vortech's are controlled by an Apex and now with Fusion it is strightforward to make small adjustments and quickly check results. The best compromise I have found that works for me are a series of Pulse combinations ranging between 0.3 to 4 seconds depending on the time of day. The undulating effect produced seems to make happy the Magnifica at the very top of the rocks and the LPS's at the bottom.

I placed the vortechs as close to the water surface as possible (without producing too much water agitation noise) creating lots of movement also from time to time a little vortex forms above the propeller releasing a spurt of bubbles that mimics a wave breaking on the surface.

Mine love high flow.

Mine sits in strong flow,about 12'' from my mp40 on crest mode,set at about 40%.

mine seems to like strong tow rather than turbulent flow. it gets happy when my mp's run on constant mode my sps don't like it though
