Majano and GBTA compatible?

DeathWish302

Clown Hoarder
I acquired some 10 year old LR that has an infestation of about 50 majano anemones. I have managed to get 4 to relocate from the rock to the sides of the holding tank walls by limiting light. Now to the question...

Would these guys negatively affect my GBTA in ny onyx clown nano? I am not in the killing mood with all of these guys and think the little green ones could add some pop to the nano. If they don't play well with rics, shrooms, zoas or the GBTA then I guess they have to go.

Removal will be a painful process as this LR is gorgeous and has at least 10 shades of coralline algae. Wish I could nuke the LR, but just not worth it to lose the life from the uber-cheap LR.

Any experiences?

They are pests, and will sting almost anything. Also what size nano are you putting a bta in?

I'm guessing this is going towards the attitude that you can't hold a GBTA in a nano?...

The tank is a 12gal Aquapod with LED lighting retrofit. This GBTA has been in this tank for about 6 months with no ill signs. It has located a nice nook in the rockwork and has adequate flow, light water chemistry.

A healthy bta should have outgrown that tank in six months. I know it sounds harsh but its not realistic to try to keep that animal in that tank. How long were you planning to try to keep it?

The parent colony I purchased this GBTA from split about once a week. The largest anemone was no bigger than a canteloupe. Mine was no bigger than a golf ball and is now as big as a baseball. It will be moved to the anemone tank as soon as its completed. Never was planning on a long-term residency. At least you don't sound like the tang police. I'm responsibly holding this anemone and will always look out for it's best interest as it is my Onyx clowns' favorite thing in life right now.

I have a "junk tank" where I keep several types of majano intentionally. I can personally attest to them stinging all of the above, but the nems and shrooms usually fight back enough to hold their ground. One good way to remove them without nuking them is to bury the rock in some rubble. They will all crawl up onto the rubble to get at the light. Of course then you gotta put them in another tank or kill them then anyway.

Sorry but I have to disagree. A mojano would probobly stress a bta to death. Especially if the bta has nowhere to get away from the mojanos.

There is nothing in my statement to disagree with. This may not be the norm, but I never said it was normal, I only said it is what I witnessed. In my "junk tank" the nems fought back.

And the palys became pals

Again, maybe this isn't normal, but I wouldn't know. I just said this is what I saw.

So they bta in that picture stayed in that spot even with the mojanos stinging it? How long did you have them together?

Well the RBTA is new, I just like that picture cuz it looks like he climbed down to meet them head on. He started out up higher and moved to there and has only been sitting like that for 3 days now. In the same tank I also have a sebae and a GBTA that I've had for 1 month and 5 months respectively. They were both bleached rescues but they are holding their own as well.

I don't know if I would call that a "junk" tank, but I'm a little partial to clowns all shapes and sizes and growing on a multiple BTA setup.

I'll wait this out a little before deciding. The GBTA is social to the rics, yumas, shrooms & zoas w/o a problem, but I'm still not certain a situation less than a year can even be considered successful.

Next question is do these little monsters spread from a tank to a the dark sump and then make their way to another main display from the sump? I'm just worried these little S.O....'s will make it to my sps dominant zone and that would royally tick me off.

Oh yeah, definitely. I think everyone can agree that they'll go anywhere and everywhere given time. I know a guy that swears they won't cross the sand but I'm not gonna back him up on that. One floater and its all over.

And in all honesty I wasn't suggesting you try it, I was just sharing my experience. The BTAs MIGHT react like mine, but most everything else would likely get burned. My rics lost it big time next to majanos.

One 'floater' already made it to the wall of their 'holding cell' in less than 12 hours....... Gotta do something then........SAVE NEMO!

My rics lost it big time next to majanos.

:eek2::furious:

I'm gonna kill the little B.......ds when I get home Friday late night!

Life w/o rics would be horrible!

Things are not as black-and-white as you generally describe. There are far too many factors to state things so polarizing.

I agree with ya bues. The little guy traveled across the US from CA in an airplane belly, was juggled around in handling that luggage, and experiences roughly 1 week spans with no food supplements when I travel. The little guy started going south a couple months back and some micro-management of major water changes reversed the foot issue. It has found it's favorite crevice and doesn't move more than an inch or so every couple days. All tentacles are plump and happy for feedings, so some slow growth won't phase me as long as the little guy is healthy. This tank is also highly experimental, as it is my onyx clown tank with LED lighting.
