Majano wand review for killing corals

Just wanted to give an honest review of this product so other people can consider it for future use. It has a lot of upside and works extremely well for certain applications, but does not work fully as advertised. I will be upfront in telling you that I do not have any kind of a pest anemone problem, but I only intended to use this to destroy pest corals. Now if you have a past anemone problem, then buy this thing in a heartbeat because it works extremely well for that purpose.

I have two types of coral that I intended to destroy with the majano wand. The first is Xenia and the second is brown palythoas. I also found one random aiptasia that I wanted to vaporize.

I decided to buy the majano wand on a whim since I won a ton of money playing poker last week and figured... what the heck why not???

On anemones....it works like a charm. Melts them right before your eyes. Bye bye aiptasia in less then 5 seconds.

For killing palys, this thing is amazing. It melts right thru them and turns them into goo. Just stick the tip right into the polyp and move it around the exterior to destroy it with ease. If you need to kill back palys, zoos, or colony polyps...then this thing is awesome. A word of caution however if killing them....run a fresh bag of carbon to eliminate any possible release of palytoxin.

Now for Xenia on the other hand, this thing doesn't work worth a you know what. I practically left the tip of the wand directly on a small Xenia patch for a good 60 seconds.... And it did absolutely nothing. What I have found works the best to kill Xenia is any kind of Euphyllia. I have a spare frog spawn that I set on top of Xenia patches for 24 hours and after that they are completely melted down to the rock with no harm done to the frog spawn. If you need to kill Xenia, give that a shot.

Hope this is helpful.....I'd say the majano wand works "90% as advertised".

Do you think it would work on yellow polyps? So basically you jab the sharp end piercing the polyp correct? Which model do you have I found two models long and short is the short version fully submergible up to the cord?

Maybe the OP works for the company.

My club has this thing and it's 100per useless. Nothing else to say, other than huge waste of money. Glad I got to try in for nothing.

I agree with BryaS4. I have one and I'll say it's 90% useless. If you can get the tip in the hole or crease where the aiptasia has it's foot, you have a good chance of killing it so it won't come back. But 90% of the time you can't get ALL the way into the hole and if ANY of the aiptasia's foot is left, it grows completely back in just 3 to 7 days!

Don't waste your money!

BTW, lasers have the exact same problem!

I would agree don't waste your money. I had bought one since I had an epidemic outbreak in my tank. The aptasia would shrink curl up and usually come back.

I have used Joes Juice & Aptaisa X with limited success. I finally just started using a liquid Kalk (2 parts powder Kalkwasser to 1 part water) in a large syringe and it by far works the best for me. Good luck!

I have it. I went back to kalk paste. If anyone doesn't believe the negative reviews and needs to learn for themselves.... PM me to buy mine ;)

I bought one to kill off brown palys, and it works like a charm. I love watching the darn things melt before my eyes.

I haven't tried it on GSP, but that's coming soon.

Electrolysis of pure water produces both hydrogen and oxygen, safe for inhalation, just don't light a match.
Electrolysis of salt water produces both hydrogen and chlorine gas, which is not safe for inhalation :hmm4:

I personally wouldn't use one of those majano wands!
