Majestic angel, that is...

I just really liked this shot of the majestic. Keep in mind this is a picture of a 3.5" fish that never stops moving and likes to hide a lot, I worked for this picture to be clear enough I could crop in nice on the face and still have good detail and what not :)

Great shot Recty, and beautiful fish too! can you share some settings that you used? (shutter speed, aperture, ISO...etc)

Yeah, I need to redo my CS4 save settings so it starts including exif data again, I turned it off to make a couple avatars for Reef Central and I havent turned it back on again.

I took it at 1/250th shutter speed, f/16 and ISO 100, I used a Speedlite 580 EXII flash. The flash is why all the scales look ringed, it really lit up that edge. Without the flash, the scales are still easily visible but the edges arent lit up. I dont think that's chromatic aberation either, it's just the coloring of the scale.

The f/16 is probably a little excessive for this particular shot, but I was doing a sequence of shots of my queen angel and trying to get the entire fish in focus so I was going for a high depth of field.

Yes, great detail and gobs of what not! Beautiful fish. I can see what you mean about the flash lighting up the scale edges.

It moves a lot huh? So what we're not seeing / is cropped out are the vise grips you have the fish clamped in to get the shot?

Very funny ;)

You've gotta get in the what not or the picture just always seems to be lacking something.

I actually just use duct tape to hold the fish in place, the vice grips rust in the saltwater, bad for the fish!

Thanks :) I really like the pupil, how it's surrounded by that glowing ring of orange. It really caught the flash and put on a nice glow.

I had never really noticed before with this fish until this picture that it has blue rings around all it's scales up on it's chin, I just thought they were blue then switched to that yellow coloration, but instead they merge slowly into yellow and keep the blue fringe for a long time.

pretty cool. That orange ring in the ye was one of the first things to jump out at me. Cool.

Yeah, neat isnt it? I probably could have dodged it a little bit and really brought it out, but I wanted it to be the natural coloration.
