Major Red algie problem

Hi all

I have just returned from a business trip to Australia to the shock and horror of seing my tank covered in red algie. I straight away checked all parameters including phosphates and they are fine, actaully perfect. I then carried out two large water changes over two days replacing almost 25 % of the volume. I checked all paramiters again and stopped feeding. Its been a week and still things have not improved but probably got worse.

My skimmer is working flat out and evrything in the tank looks in good shape. My corals at the moment look okay although the algie has started covering some of them. The alie does seem to die off a liitle while the lights are on but by morning its all back and worse. I tried syphonong it out but this has not helped either.

I need urgent help from someone who can come up with an answere

Somethin else. If you look at bright light thrugh thetank I can see millions and millions of what can oly be described as tinny tinny hairs suspened in the water. From a distance all looks clear but on close inspection this is not the case.

I don't know what the little hairs are but it sounds from your description to be cyanobacteria rather than a true algae. Is it slimey looking and if you use a turkey baster to blow water on it does it break up and detatch from the surface that it's on?

I got a bad case of cyanobacteria while I was cycling my tank-just kept getting worse not better. Then I found a product called chemi-clean. 1 treatment and in 2 days it was gone! and has not returned and it has been almost 2 months.
