Making coast to coast?

I'm going to make a coast to coast in the back of my 30cube. How what are the standard dimensions for something like that. I've never built one befor so I have no real clue.. Just make it big enough to aconidate the plumbing?

Depends on the size of your plumbing.
You need to be able to fit the elbows (if you are doing a bean animal).
So i would just make some measurements. My old one was around 5" square.

My new one is a "ghost" style overflow where the inner coast to coast box is pretty thin.
Then three holes are drilled in the tank, allowing the water to flow from the inner box to a smaller but deeper outer box where the elbows and drains are located. Three 2" Sch 80 bulkheads hold it all together.

If you have clearance in back, definately go with the small in tank skimmer box and external scupper box. As well as they work, a large intank C2C is a major eyesore IMO.

Bean animal is the plan. It's going in the living room so I want it as silent as possible. It's 1$ a gallon days at petco so I'll most likely be picking up a 20 tall for the fuge/sump. I'm not sure what pump to run yet. Most likely going to be a jebao DC pump. Maybe a mag 5.im a fan of the variable flow from the jebao. With lower flow rated (500-600) I'm thinking I'll plumb it with 1". Maybe 1-1/2 in case I want more flow in the future.

Really 3/4" is all you'll need on a 30 but I would not go over 1". I run 1" on my 120 and have a flow of ~800gph. I had a BA on my 72 Bowfront that was 100% 3/4" and flowed ~500gph max through there.

I looked too. They don't have it on the website. I was there the other night and it was a pleasant surprise. It's running until jan 24th. At least in My area

Is it really? I don't see it on their website. I need a QT.

If you go to their site, enter your local stores zip code and click on the local ad button you will find the $1 gallon sale. I just picked up another 40B for a fresh water build.

Dennis, I think I figured out your "ghost" overflow. I'll look into it. For the sake of $$$ though I might just do a regular internal overflow. It's a $30 tank and I would like to keep it that way. 4 more pieces of glass and a few more bulkheads isn't a lot of monie but right now it all adds up and there is a drag swap coming up soon I need all my exes pennies for.

If you want the effect of a coast to coast without the expense of the glass, you could try a PVC/ABS C2C. I have one running on my 75G using a length of 1 1/2" ABS and 4 elbows. The pipe has a 1/4" slot cut down the middle. You could get away with 1" pipe and bulkheads.

You can see it in this old pic.

Once the tank grows in, you really don't notice it.

It's not necessarily the expense of the glass.. It's doubling the expense of the glass and bulkheads by having 2 boxes to build for the Ghost overflow.

We had a fire below our last apartment and had to move in a hurry. I'm pinching pennies so we can get our butts back in gear towards buying a house. We had a solid plan little over a year ago and due to my girlfriends horse training business needing to downsize we got WAAAAYYYY off track.

That is a good idea though. I just love the sleek look of a coast to coast.

If you end up doing 3/4 all the way you can make the overflow pretty narrow. Maybe 2.5" or so. I'll go find my video I did on my first BA that was a 72g. It was done all in 3/4.

Found it... Mind you this was for a freshwater tank at the time.
