Making Me Real Nervous.....

I have a 4 month old vortec with wave driver bought from Reef Geek. I just moved across the state and had it set up in old location for 1 month. I set up my aquarium here a few nights ago. Tonight I am setting up the Vortec and the controller is making all kinds of crazy colors and then goes to blinking green and will not come off that. The mode button does not work at all??

Plus I see rust on the magnet also, its not much, but it is starting already?? I thought it was 18 months before it starts, not before it covers completely??

I am unhappy right now with a $600 price tag with my battery and now I will have to pay to send this in?? I am confused!

Can I please get some clarification on this?

I am sure that ecotech will chime in on monday but you don't have to get that nervous. You will have plenty of warranty time left and they will take care of you.

Check your power connection. When the battery senses an outage, it overides the driver and goes to a preset speed based on its setting.

I would try disconecting the backup, double check the power cable on the main power, and clear the memory on the wave driver, see manual.

Once I sat down and read the manual for programming it, and set the master/slave I have had problem free operation since.

Although, I do not have multiple pumps. i just have one. So the slave option is not my issue. i will try anywat through. Thanks

krzyphysygy-

No reason to be nervous, we will take care of you. Please send an email to service@ecotechmarine.com with a description of your problem and we'll assist you right away.

The magnets have a plastic coating on them that can oxidize over time and we can replace that for you. We will have a better magnet coming out very soon that never requires replacement.

Tim I appreciate your quick service responce to the issue. I guess I feel alittle bumed to have to send it in for repair. It is a pretty expensive pc of equipment and in operation for only 1 month.

I bought it for the battery pack and really for that reason only. Piece of mind, ya know. For it to go out like that, its not what I expected.

Thank You for your help.

I sent the pump in as asked then I received an e-mail that the pump works fine and there are no issues with the pump??

The person wrote that it must be the supply cord and to send it in. The supply cord probably cost less then it would be to ship it and test it. Plus the aggravation of having to ship it out.

Tim can't they just ship me a new cord?? If they are testing it on there end with there cord and every thing is fine, I would imagine that he is right and it is the cord considering what they wrote. Do I really need to send this cord out????? Would'nt the cord be replaced anyway if it did not work?? I could save the funds in shipping it out?

They also said there was no rust on the magnet, just discolored?? It was not that color when I installed it and appears to be a small sign of rust to come?? Or is the color changing to a hint of orange natural.

If I need to send the cord in I will, just thought it could be easier?

I do not believe I said anything about a cord. What I suspect is a possible cause is the power supply. It makes it hard to troubleshoot a complete system when I do not have all the components. What parts I do have check good.

Here is a copy of what I sent you.

I got your pump today and it is perfect.
There is no signs of rust, only slight discoloration which is normal.
It does not flash colors, speed adjusts as per specs and feed mode works.
The problem you described leads me to believe it is possibly a bad power supply but you did not send it in. I will need you to send in the power supply so I can test the entire pump.

This will be addressed further via e-mail.

Please go back and double check all your connections. I read where it worked and you moved it and just set it up again. Check to see where the power supply cable is run and also the battery back up charger.

The reason I ask is I have seen the exact same issue twice in the past 6 weeks. After numerous parts were swapped out and the pumps sent in for service with no problems found, it was found out that in both cases the battery charger which puts out 12 VDC was hooked to the wireless controller 24VDC input. This will cause the exact same symptoms you describe. The controller is only getting 12 VDC and acts as if it is on battery backup. It may not be the cause in your case but where it was working, and after setting it back up again the problems arose, it is well worth checking out.

I thought you meant the cord. That is the only piece I did not send you? The power supply as I took it is the cord?? I guess I am extremely confused. The issues were there before i hooked up the battery so that could not be it. I did review the reverse cord thing before I started this thread and it was correct. They do not fit in the opposite holes I f I remember correctly.
What do I need to do to have this resolved. I can't check what you mentioned because you have the pump and controller.

The power supply is the black brick with the cord that plugs into the controller. It also has a power cord attached to it that plugs into the AC wall outlet. It has a green LED that indicates if it is getting power. It is what actually powers the controller. The parts I have are the motor - controller - and wet side.

I just moved tanks and when I hooked up my vortech I had the exact same problem. Lights flashed all different colors for a a few seconds and then shut off. After a few minutes I realized that I had mixed up the power cord from the battery backup and the pump. When I switched it back, everything worked as normal. It was exactly as EcoTech described above.
