Male clown no longer eats food -- only eggs!?

i am beginning to think that the male in my breeder pair of perculas has a diet primarily composed of eggs that he and the female lay every couple of weeks!

he eats from time to time when i feed the tank, but most often he is behind the anemone in their special spot. he only goes after food on the occasion that he happened to be taking a short break from his duties (which is rare indeed!)

i think he doesnt even notice that the tank is being fed sometimes, he's so focused on the task at hand. but as a result i wonder if he's eating more eggs than he should! i wouldnt have thought of it except that i just started trying to raise the fry (see thread in breeders' forum), and the ultimate hatch was much smaller than the initial nest of eggs they laid. both clowns are in great condition, and i feed the tank a few times per day. maybe he just likes his own flavor :)

what do you think? any similar experiences?

They're probably not healthy. If you're not already doing so, you might try to improve the lipid and protein intake. Just a first guess. Perhaps some experienced breeders will chime in.
