Males and Females

I'm almost there...Cycled tank, slowly stocking with cleanup crew, macro, etc.

I think I want to go with a same sex pair, because this is my first go at a seahorse tank and I don't think I'm prepared for breeding. My question is, if at some point, I decide to breed, can I introduce another pair of the opposite sex? Is there a preference on 2 males first, then females or vice versa?

I've searched around on the forum, but I don't see this anywhere, so I'm sorry if it has been discussed before. I'm just trying to think very far ahead for every step of this tank.

Most same sexers go with females as males sometimes have pouch problems and are considered to be more of a problem than an egg bound female.
In adding seahorses later, be sure to add the same species from the same breeding source.
If there is too much time difference between the originals and the added ones, they may not mate and breed.
I've found that for my reidis, they are less likely to mate with significantly different sizes.

Yeah, I was wondering which was more rare or worse: pouch problems or infections from untransferred eggs in the females. I trust your experience, and have learned A LOT from your posts in the last couple of months that I've been building my tank. So I'll probably go with 2 girlies.

I plan on getting 2 erectus from Seahorse Source, and I'm sure if I were to get more, I would get them from there again, since everyone raves about them (and I live in FL). I guess I'll just take my chances with the breeding. If they do, they do. If they don't, they don't.

I hope to get some pics of my tank up soon, but still don't plan on getting the SHs for a little while.
