Malu Seabae Anemone

So I'm thinking about putting an Malu Anemone in my SPS dominant tank. I'm praying it doesn't move to my sps. I will be removing the zoa rock on the right side and placing the anemone there. If it doesn't like that spot, I will put it down where the green nuke palys are.

Can anyone show me pictures of their Malu Anemone? I can't find many pictures on them, they're usually Krispa Seabae Anemone. I heard the brown Malus do the best and the white ones with purple tips are actually bleached anemones.

Here's a recent pic of mine---

Here's a short video---
It should look like this when spread out..........the tentacles are much sparser moving towards the center. I've seen a handful of what I'd call true malus for sale........most are misidentified.

Divers Den had a nice red one & also a purple one on their site over the last month or so.

It's strictly a sand anemone & won't bother your Sps. It doesn't like heavy flow, so make sure you find a place it likes. Make sure your clowns aren't too big............they'll trash it easily if so.

Wow, yours look quite different from the liveaquaria ones. I'm waiting for liveaquaria to have them again. They sold out their last one a few days ago. The colored one on liveaquaria is bleached out right?

If they're strictly sand anemone, then that makes me feel a lot better. I do have a lot of flow in my tank so I'm not sure how it's going to work out.

Bad timing, I didn't think they would get one so soon!

I will be out of town Thursday and will be gone for a month. I will have to wait until I come back to find one. That is a gorgeous anemone you got Orion and I wish I can buy the one on diversden. :headwalls::headwalls::headwalls:

How often are you feeding yours and I'm surprised yours is small? Liveaquaria claims they get up to 1'8"?
I also have fine sand so I believe it might have difficulty attaching to it. Can I cover the base of it and leave it to attach onto the bottom of the tank?

Mine is about 10 years old in my tank. He (I had a female also but lost her) does not get larger than 8 or 9 inches. If I feed him well, he just spawn. I am looking for a female right now. I got another but only in the last 6 months or so and cannot tell if it is a male or female yet. The purple was the female with eggs and the green is the male spawned. My tank at the office craked over the weekend and I lost most of the corals and the female Malu. Clams and the male Malu survived this disaster.

They do attache to rock/or tank bottom under the sand.

Where did you get your beautiful malus from? I will definitely be looking for a nice colored one when I come back. Didn't know malus came in so many nice colors. Thanks for answering my question and sharing your experiences.

Sorry to hear about what happened to those amazing malus.

I got my green on from Petco of all place. The purple one from a LFS in Austin and the purple tip (my other Malu from liveaquaria.com).

How are you guys getting these to attach? I have medium flow and cannot get mine to stay put. I'll turn the power heads off for several hours, let it bury its foot, then turn the flow back on. It will not stay put once any flow other than my return pump is on. It ends up on its side and just floating around in the current near the sand bed.

Any suggestions?

It cannot attach to the sand so you have to have a rock there. Block him in with a rock, even dig and indentation on the sand then up him there and put a flat rock on him (hold by the sand on the side of the hole, not crush the anemone). If he is healthy, he will attach to the rock then eventually dig down the sand and attach to the bottom of the tank.

Wow thanks OrionN i havnt gotten my sebae (from liveaquaria.com) to stick to anything either and that trick seems to be working! Its healthy, turning more green by the day, sticky and eating, but just wouldnt take to any of the spots i put it in (or made). Scared the crap out of me when i came back from class and theres a sebae face first on my maxi-mini (no harm was done luckily). Beautiful nems btw.
