Talked to Doug (Reef Happy) earlier.

He will be having surgery on Wednesday afternoon to fuse/replace 4 discs in his neck. The docs will be going in from the front, so not only will he be in a fair amount of pain for a while, he will not be able to talk.

His livelyhood requires alot of mobility, so best of wishes Doug on speedy and limber recovery.

he should be able to talk allright. it'll just sound a little funny for a coule of days from the tube they shove down your throat. my wife has had 3 discs in her neck replaced. and almost the same surgery a second time since the first one was done by a quack doctor, except then they had to go in from the front and then the back 2 days laterto fix it.

Best of luck to you Doug. hope all goes well for you.

also my wife still has her electronic bone growth stimulator that kinda goes around your neck, but rests on your shoulders. she won't be needing it any time soon (hopefully) so if your doc recommends one, your could probably use ours for a while.

Doug, you know I'm close. If you need any help, just let me know. 816-4918.
I pray for you a knowledgeable DR, a quick recovery, and great results!

Thanks everyone.
Guess I am just getting old and falling apart!! I have had neck pain for 30 years after a head on car accident in high school when I went through the windshield. I have had shoulder pain for about 2 years and come to find out it is my neck causing it. But the MRI showed problems in my neck from C3 -C7. I have been having some problems swallowing and the feeling of something stuck in my throat for the past year or so and come to find out you can see on the mri bulging disk going into my throat. I had been dealing with all the pain because you just learn to adapt but when pain began a few months ago shooting down my arm and fingers along with the numbness I new something more most be wrong. And trying to work with all the numbness is getting too difficult. Anyway, hope this will take care of lots of problems. Susan has her job cut out for her taking care of me and the tanks.

I know a older man that only had one fusion and has permantly lost about half his voice. My voice should be pretty quite for a few days and get it back hopefully 100%.

Cory,
I will check into the bone growth stimulator. They are doing my fusions with Titainium. How much of your wifes disk was replaced? They say the voice problems come from the disk replacements and working around the voice box at the C3 level. I don't have problems that much from the tube in throat.

they have done all of my wifes fusions with the titanium also. they were full disc replacement/ fusions. she had C3 through C6 done in the neck and has also had L5 through S1 in the lower back. the first doctor screwed up both her neck and back surgeries and thank god he's no longer practicing or butchering people. he's the one that recommended the bone growth stimulator. her current surgeon did not require her to wear it after the corrective surgeries though, and told her it couldn't hurt to use it but was not needed.

yeah your wife is in for a lot of work.

Spinal surgery is always risky. My wife may have to have it soon and I had back surgery. My prayers and wishes for a speedy recovery.

Talked Doug several times by text today.

Surgeries went well. Recovery was difficult, so an extra day in the hospital.

Pain in arms and hands is gone.

Pain from surgery is not.....

Thank God for pain meds!!! Still very sore and have lots of pain. Came out of surgery and recovery at 8:30 last Wed evening. I did have some problems with heart rate being way too high. It took until about 7 the next morning before they were able to get it back normal. Had some other complications, so I stayed another day. Baptist is a great hospital and great nursing staff. Just setting at home taking lots of naps. Can't drive for several more weeks.

Good to hear everything went well....you will be up and going in time to plant some more Tomatos in your back yard and it is too danged cold to smoke anything good to eat anyway...kick back and enjoy your down time....holler if we can help.......:sleep::sleep:

My surgeon doesn't do the electronic bone growth stimulator. I just started the physical therapy today with Jim Thorpe. Having some complications but looking for some improvements soon I hope.

Mike, I smoked enought meet brisket/ribs back around thanksgiving to last for a good while. I just need some more pecan and fruit wood for smoking this coming spring.

Doug....if your Doc doesn't do the Elec Bone Stimulator...maybe we could try that Aptasia Zapper Deal....I bet that baby would get you moving!!!!....Just kidding....I'm glad to hear you are making progress....I don't have Pecan...only Oak and Black Walnut...and that meat you smoked is way too good to come from either of those!!! Soon as you can, come to a meeting...we have quite a few new members...we are growing again and that's exciting...say Hi to Susan and you take care...

Mike, that is really funny (Aptasia Zapper) might have to get that one a try!!!

These wicked xrays were taken this week to see if the fusions held so I could begin physical therapy.

Now...That's what COMAS is all about (Chris' Pecan wood)...Ask and ye shall recieve!!! WoW...that hardware looks almost scary...doesn't that make your ole worn out body more valuable having all that "Interior Bling?"

how much pecan do you need? I will be doing some pruning when it gets a little warmer.
Chris, sure I would really like some of the pecan if you don't need it. How much you think you will have? I need small pieces no larger than 8" long and up to 4" dia...
