Mandarin goby question

If you have access to it, try and use some rigid airline tubing and target feed him some pods or frozen Rotifers with the flow turned off, and see how he reacts. If he begins begins to buck a little, he may be underfed and his system is rejecting some of the pods/Rotifers, but, keep at it, he'll get a little food in his system this way, at least to survive another day. If he calmly moves away, then he's probably going to be ok. One of the keys is to coax him out into the open and away from that spot so you can get a better look at him.

Are any of the other fish swimming near to him or are they staying away from that area like its infected with the plague?

ReefJunkie- no fish are starting away from him. Alex - has foraged before - only last 24 hrs he's been acting that way. He did move off the spot. I will try to target feed tomorrow.

Looking at that video I would say this is heavy breathing and not the "spitting" motion I figured from your description. A mandarin sitting like this and breathing heavy is clearly reason to be concerned. If it persists I would probably try a freshwater bath to see if that brings him some relief.
Formalin would normally be my bath of choice if velvet or brook are suspected but if a fish is already short on breath it could make things worse.
If you really suspect velvet you may want to try Chloroquine Phosphate (=Ick-Shield Powder).

At least it's just a fish. At the end of the day , I really should have have quarantined first. I was too eager to get him into tank and am probably lucky nobody else is dying.

I quarantine all my fish, accept for my mandarins. I Did once. But so many people have said it is not really necessary that the male I have now I just added to my DT. When I did quarantine one I kept hatching baby brine shrimp for it daily.

Sorry for both of your losses.

Shelley
