It's Spring!!!!!!!
I want to share my early success with my first mandarin. I've had him for almost five months and he's doing well. He was thin but willing to eat frozen when I got him and I knew I had a good pod population going - the tank was a year and a half old with a thriving 'fuge - but I was still really nervous about getting one! I'm absolutely sure that things wouldn't be going so well if it weren't for EllieSuz introducing me to Nutramar Ova and being so generous with her supply until I could get some of my own (also possible thanks to her pushing John at Marine Oasis into ordering some!):beer:
I have been feeding the 'fuge with phytoplankton about every other day and swishing things around in there to help move some goodies into the DT (it's a hang on 'fuge). Right now the mandarin gets target fed twice a day, but for about two months I was feeding him three to four times a day. He goes right to the same rock when he sees me at the tank and especially when I turne the powerheads off. He picked that up the first couple of times I did it. Thank goodness I'm a stay at home mom for now! The only annoyance about this is that while he's eating I have to beat off my coral beauty and wrasse :crazy1:
I managed to dig up a picture I posted when I first put him in the tank in April
And here he is now . . . he's put on weight, but unfortunately he lost is first dorsal fin early on. I have no idea how, but I hope it grows back! The ponape is on the rock where I feed him.
Isn't he awesome?!
